I just got back from the emergency room. For a bladder infection. A f&cking bladder infection!
I went to my doc on Monday for my yearly, but I also had a little tingling when I peed. They checked for a UTI. The test came back negative. No biggie.
Yesterday, I had an upset stomach from my new meds. Again, no biggie.
Today, I woke up with abdominal pain. I'm cramping in my pelvic area as well as all down my back on the right side. It progressively got worse as the day went on until it was hard for me to sit up and I was nauseous. Also, I am seriously constipated. So I go home sick from work and call my doctor. She says to go to the emergency room because of the severity of the pain and the constipation.
I go to the emergency room, which is always fun and always quick (sarcasm). I'm in so much pain at this point that I just curl up into a ball on the bed in the room while waiting for test results and nurses. And those results are...bladder infection. Not even a severe one, according to the doctor.
Now I'm home, still in some serious pain, and annoyed. I just spent our savings in an emergency room to find out I have a bladder infection. The only reason they didn't know at the doc's on Monday was because it was too soon to tell. Now we're broke, I'm still in pain, and I'm going to have to be really careful about spending at the GTG (which I'm still going to because the tickets are already purchased, and they're non-refundable). I'm officially canceling our stay-cation for February and I have no idea how we'll be paying our taxes.
Gah! Today sucks! A beer would be great right about now, but I can't drink because I'm on antibiotics.
PS. My doc's office just called and it turns out I DO have a thyroid problem, so now I have to go pay for meds for THAT and pay for another doc's visit in 6 weeks so they can recheck it. Grrrrrr!
/end rant...maybe.
Re: I'm so frustrated I could spit! (Long TMI Debbie Downer post)
Oh, how frustrating! I'm sorry you're in pain and miserable!
Do you not have insurance or is it just super crappy insurance?
Do you know if they have a generic version of the meds you will need?
I have insurance, but I also have a $750 deductible. I do not, however, have $750 in my bank.
The meds shouldn't be too bad, and my pharmacy always gives me the generic, so I really shouldn't b!tch about that part. It was just bad timing for the call. I was really nice to the nurse, though. I didn't take it out on her and asked a lot of questions about my condition so I'm informed, so I feel good about that.
Oh , that painful and sucky. I hope you feel better soon.
I'm sure your doc can prescribe generic meds for your thyroid. That will be a little easier on your wallet.
Im buying you a drink when I see you.
I'm so sorry.
Did you find out what you can take/do for the pain?
And OOFTA to the deductible!
They gave me a script for the stuff that numbs the urinary tract and turns my pee bright orange. I basically just have to wait for that to kick in and for the cramping to subside. I've got so many meds in my system right now, I'm afraid to even take ibuprofen at the moment. I'll be ok, though. Laying down is helping.
Ugh, UTIs are the WORST!
Will you be taking Synthroid? That's what MH takes for his Hashimoto's Disease and it's $4 a month at Target pharmacy.
Thyroid meds aren't bad! I assume you're thyroid is underactive, from reading the post where they wanted to test it? Mine is as well, and even w/o insurance, I only pay $4 a month for levothyroxine.
So sorry about the rest of it though, seems like everyone's day is less than stellar. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon and you start feeling better.
She told me the name of it over the phone, but I've forgotten already. It's something with "throid" in the name, but I'm sure that's a LOT of thyroid meds. Here's hoping it's the cheapest one!
What's Hashimoto's Disease, if you don't mind me asking?
Aw man!
Seems like you can't catch a break!
I'm sorry to hear all of this
Hashimoto's is a autoimmune disorder where your body basically eats your thyroid until there's nothing left. So, he'll be taking synthetic thyroid for the rest of his life.
I've never heard of that. It sounds like a PITA. I'm glad there's an easy way to maintain his thyroid levels, though.
This is truth. I'll keep that in mind.
I am so so sorry, all of that truly sucks and I hope you are feeling better very soon.
I volunteer to split meals with you, so long as you like bacon, avocadoes, and cheese. We'll keep in the cheap, there's no plans for any fancy pants restaurants anyhow, everything should be reasonable so we don't tap you (or anybody) out!
Ah, that sucks SLouWE, I know all about how crappy UTIs are. I hope you start getting some relief real soon!
I got so fed up with having to go to the Dr everytime I got one, so I got a vet to order me a bottle of the antibiotics that the Dr would prescribe. Now at least when I feel the tingling of one coming on, I take a week's course of the antibiotic. Thank goodness for this, since I got one the day we arrived on our Honeymoon... that would have been hell to deal with that all week.
