My kindle casing has been cracked for about a year now, it doesn't fit perfectly in the lighted case anymore which is kind of a butt, however it all still works.
You can order replacements for $65 which is cheaper than buying a whole new one. I wanted the exact same one anyway since the newer ones got rid of the keyboard. My hooks for the lighted case were kind of jacked so I guess that's good.
DH bought it for me, so I made him call Amazon and tell them what happened lol. He edited the story heavily. "Oh, I tripped and bumped it against something...". While you were banging you were wife, sir.

lol, my story is not exciting. I was reading while he was taking a nap beside me and he woke up and jumped me. I feel like something pointy (like an ELBOW) had to have landed it on it and caused damage. I'm fairly rough with it on a daily basis. I went to turn it on later and the screen was all jacked.
