I've had an etsy shop (sugarpoppydesigns) for about a year now. Over the last year, I made a total of 3 sales, two of which were to family members. This year's goal is to double that number, which I thought would be doable, since 6 isn't that great anyways. I was a little hesitant to set the goal just because my first year was so rough.
Then I found the glory of the BNS/BNR. Basically you buy a feature spot by purchasing something from a shop that's already featured in a particular round ($4 minimum purchase seems to be the going rate). I needed dog treats, so I figured what the heck. Well, I've made 3 sales in 3 days (none of whom are people that I know), so I'm definitely on track to blow last year's sales out of the water.
I'm wondering if anyone else on this board has an etsy shop and would be willing to share some success stories or pointers for getting sales and keeping up with inventory, etc.
So far, I've got a modest collection (10 pieces) of girl's dresses and skirts in bold prints and design. I also offer custom work for those brave enough to put their design down on paper. I was actually thinking about making children's aprons, both full aprons and half aprons, since I think the pattern will be easy enough to come up with. I am also planning on talking to the folks at Love 146, a charity organization working to stop child sex trafficking worldwide) and setting up a deal where I make a special line of half aprons with the Love146 theme and donate $5 from the sale of each apron to their cause. I think it's a great cause, and I hope that people will buy the aprons feeling good about helping to give children their childhoods. If you all are interested, I can keep you in the loop regarding the Love146 line.
So, what do you etsians think? Any secret formulas to overnight success??
Re: Anyone Else on Etsy?
I set up a shop, but haven't actually put anything up for sale yet. I have been toying with the idea of selling quilts, and maybe baby-related stuff. I got a sewing machine and just need to start making stuff, but I also don't know much about selling on Etsy. I am going to go check out your shop now, though!
Also, I think the apron idea is great. It's always a good idea to give back when you can.

I picked a shop name because you have to when you set up an account to order, but I don't currently have any plans to sell anything in it. Eventually I will, but not anytime soon.
What's your shop name?

I had an Etsy shop a few years ago (SplendidPerspective), and I sold custom designed wedding monograms. I had 3 sales in the first month, all to people I didn't know, but I really didn't do anything to advertise my shop. I think it was mainly that I offered something people would specifically search for, and my sample designs were some of the better ones on there at the time. After the first month I closed up shop because I found it to be too time consuming to be worth the money for me.
Your dresses are adorable and your descriptions are very engaging. It can be hard to imagine what the items will look like on, so I would definitely borrow that cute little girl to model as many of the dresses as possible!
Good luck making your shop a success!

My little girl stuff is under SugarPoppyDesigns. I've kind of been in a funk lately, so I haven't done much sewing. With 3 sales in the past 3 days, hopefully I'll jump right back into being motivated to create (we shall see).
I've set up one called FStopandShutter that's going to feature my photography if and when I get a new computer with Photoshop capabilities. My friend and I like hiking etc and taking pics, so I've got a whole bunch of nature related stuff that I've shot over the summer. Maybe one day I'll put it online.
Cute stuff, love the cherry blossom dress!
