Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Who is planning to go see this? Initially, after seeing the preview (which made me tear up -- embarrassing), I thought I wanted to go see it. But then I checked out rottentomatoes.com and it's got 52% from critics so I'm not sure. I usually trust the critics, and I don't want to waste my money on something mediocre. Do these reviews change your mind if you were planning to see it?
Re: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Hmm, I haven't heard any reviews yet. I LOVED the book and I hate it when the movie version of a book is bad. The commercials look good.
I'm interested to see how general audiences like it.

Have you seen Larry Crowne?
Anyway, I love Tom Hanks and I loved the book, but it seems like it might be overly sappy...I don't want that to ruin the image of the book that I have. So I might not see it.
It's nice to check out Rotten Tomatoes to get an idea of your expectations of a movie.. but I wouldn't let it stop you from seeing a movie.
One of my all time favorite movies ever is Man on Fire. I don't know if I've ever cried harder in a movie or felt so much emotion since (many years ago now). And Rotten Tomatoes only gave it like a 24% rating. Had I gone by that site and skipped over that movie it would have been a down right tradegy lol.
At least if you're giving it a thought.. wait for it to come out on DVD and rent it for a buck

IMHO critic reviews are very subjective. What a critic thinks as a "crappy" movie, is almost always wrong to me. I think movies, and kinds of movies that are enjoyed are based on the individuals ideas of what a good movie is.
Except for Hereafter (Clint Eastwood), biggest time waster of a movie. I never say that of any movie (huge buff here). Usually Clint has an amazing output (Bridges of MC, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, etc.) ...so I was a little shocked by this one.
Anyway, to get back to your original question, I personally don't want to see it because September 11th reminders are hard enough for me. I tried watching those kinds of movies (United 93, Remember Me, etc.) and I just can't get out of wallowing in stomach pain tears at the end, and it affects me for days after. Maybe our kids will have a different idea of a 9/11 movie, but for me, it hits too close to home from the events of the actual day...I can't separate the two like I can when I watch Pearl Harbor or Titanic (because I wasn't alive when it happened...IDK).
