What a day!! So we met with the neurosurgeon this morning and DH is scheduled for surgery on Friday. OMG, I'm excited that this will hopefully be over soon, but also worried because of course it's back surgery so there is more than just a tiny chance for complications. But, we know he can't go on the way he has and we really like the surgeon. We've gotten two opinions, so we're confident this is the right decision. My MIL is flying in on Thursday so that she will be here as well. She has to go home on Sunday but then FIL is coming for 2 weeks to help around the house while DH heals.
So this morning we woke up to another messy Ellie diaper that led straight to the bath. I know the sick policy at the daycare is to exclude children with diarrhea that cannot be contained in a diaper, but my ever optimistic self brought her in. I was optimistic because yesterday we only went through 3 wardrobes changes, which was an improvement from the weekend. I told the teachers that she was still struggling with that but the vomiting and other symptoms of the stomach bug had gone since Friday so the pedi office seemed sure she was on the mend. I also told them if things regressed to a point they were not comfortable to call and I would come pick her up. Well she had another blowout at daycare but I never got a call. The teacher handled it very well and just told me about it when I picked her up. By the time we got home, she had another one, so we were up to a third wardrobe change again today, so definitely not an improvement. ::start vent:: So I decided, enough is enough and called the pedi office again. The nurses have been telling me all along that this diarrhea could last 4-6 days and is no big deal, just her body dealing with the after-effects of the virus. Mid-day tomorrow marks a week. Well the nurse finally was like, Yea we should probably bring her in. Then she proceeded to reprimand me for bringing her to daycare while having diarrhea. EXCUSE ME? I have called 4 times in the last week and been reassured every time that she is fine, the other symptoms have gone so she's just recovering, her stomach is just taking time to re-establish normalcy, etc, etc. I optimistically thought things were improving and was proved wrong. Ex-freaking-cuse me. I'm sure they deal with a lot of over-the-top hypochondriac (sp?) parents, but next time, please take me seriously when I say this is NOT normal. Don't reassure me this IS normal, and then when I try to go on with life like normal, reprimand me! ARG!! ::vent over::
I'm just happy that now we can go see the doctor and hopefully get my baby girl & DH on the mend for good. Unfortunately, I'm out of work for the rest of the week, and between this and the days I missed last week, this leaves me with 2 more sick days for the year. As of Jan 17. Great
Re: Another update & vent!
What a day indeed. I'm sorry you're dealing with all this, Kellie. I'll be thinking positively for YH's surgery. My brother had back surgery several years ago and it was nerve wracking but all turned out fine and now he's running marathons.
As for Ellie, I hope she feels better soon. It sounds awfully similar to what Lucie had in England. She had vomiting a few times and diarrhea for a week. Wouldn't eat, pooped in her sleep more than anything. Turned out it was something called adenovirus when they did a stool sample and it passed in about 10 days but it was awful. I hate how nurses tell you what to do like they know better. And what do they expect you to do if they say it's normal! I'm sorry but I hope things get sorted out.
**hugs** hang in there!

Glad that T got some answers. Praying for a smooth surgery. G had back surgery a while back and he is doing good. Surgery is scary but like you said he can't go on this way and that is not a great way to live. Glad people are coming to help.
Hope E gets better. Does sound like it might be the virus that Caroline mentioned, so hopefully she is on the mend. Just make sure she is hydrated, which I know you are. Poor kid.
That sucks that you only have a few sick days left and it is only January. If push came to shove could they loan you some from next year to use for this year? I don't know if companies will let you do that or if people can let you have some of their sick days? Hopefully you won't have to use anymore this year.
Thanks for the T&P ladies! It definitely sounds almost exactly like what Lucie had! We had a good pedi appt and Ellie is doing OK. Her belly is a little distended but otherwise she looks healthy and no signs of dehydration. She doesn't want to eat her rice cereal so I started putting it in the bottle today and that went OK. Not great, but OK. They said that since this is her first stomach illness and she is still primarily formula-fed, it will be extra hard for her to recover and could easily take up to two weeks. I'm really hoping it's not that long!
T is hanging in there also. He can't take any ibuprophen this week so he's in more pain than usual, but it will be so worth it. Tomorrow we have two pre-op appts and then we'll be picking up MIL at the airport.
I'm being super positive and hoping this is our 'sicknesses' for the year! We'll definitely be hitting our deductible very early! I will try to post an update on Friday to let yall know how he did. We have to be at the hospital at 10:30 with surgery around Noon.
