LOL! We're not having a girl...and a question

I went in for my big ultrasound today feeling ALL smug b/c I already knew we were having a girl b/c we went to an independent ultrasound place a few weeks ago.

HA!

It was immediately apparent to the Dr., DH and I that we are in fact having a BOY!!!

I mean seriously, DH and I couldn't stop laughing. We've started buying things, we call the baby Lorraine, etc.

In the end, it was my Dr. who felt smug :)

I was worried how my kids would react (b/c they were in the room when we had the first ultrasound), my son thought it was hilarious that the original ultrasound was wrong, my daughter was more bummed out. She was looking forward to a baby sister but I immediately took them shopping so that she could pick out a few cute boy outfits. Once she saw the cute clothes she got excited and said she can't wait to tell her best friend that she's going to have a baby brother.

Anyway, here's my question:

If you had a summer baby how did you dress your little one at night? My other son was born in June several years ago and I always dressed him in thin cotton sleepers from Children's Place and wrapped him in a thin flannel receiving blanket, but I'm wondering if that was too much now. Last summer was so flipping hot that I wonder if a onesie and flannel blanket would be better. Thoughts?

Re: LOL! We're not having a girl...and a question

  • I think it really depends on how cold you keep your house at night, more than what the temp is like outside. We usually keep it around 73. When he was a newborn we'd dress him in a t-shirt and his diaper, for easy nighttime diaper changes), then wrapped him in one of those carters cotton swaddle blankets.  When he started sleeping through the night, we used cotton footie pajamas with snaps.

  • Oooh! Good thought on the t-shirt and diaper!

I think we dressed him in footie pjs b/c my mom always insisted that he would be too cold if we didn't do it, but I question that logic now. We keep our house around the same temp as you during summer.

  • Tshirt or onesie or just diaper, in a swaddle me or halo swaddle. Once we stopped the swaddle, cotton footie pjs.

This is what we did too.

  • Viv was born in July.

We keep our house around 75-78 in the summer and frankly we just put her in a onesie, socks and a muslin swaddle. The one time we tried footie pajamas she woke up drenched in sweat.  She pretty much lived in onesies and it was easy.

We use footie PJs occasionally now, but right now she's in bed in a long-sleeved cotton shirt and wool pants (because we cloth diaper and it's our cover)  with a muslin blanket.

  • Hey-oh!  Expecting a boy here, too...except everyone told me from day 1 it must be a boy.
  • Georgia seems to be very hot natured (aka she "glistens" a lot, HA!) so during the summer we only did a diaper and swaddle.  We used either the a+a swaddle blankets and once she got fiesty, the velcro Swaddle Me.
  • onesie and diaper here.  No socks unless her feet felt cool to the touch.  She has hot feet and didn't like wearing socks at night.

  • DS was born on the 1st August, but was a month early. Our house was probably kept at around 74 I think. I can't actually remember!....

Anyway we used a cotton sleeper, a swaddle me sleep sac and a thin A&A blanket (target ones are thinner and smaller than the ones you get elsewhere), which he was swaddled in as well. He also had a little hat on. But he was only around 5 lbs.

When he was in the NICU for a week, they probably had his room at about 70F, and he's be bundled up in a cotton sleeper and at least 2 receiving blankets if not more.

Now for comparison at 5 months, we still have him in a cotton sleeper - sometimes a slightly thicker cotton sleeper, sometimes a thinner one depending on the weather! And we use a halo sleep sack and a regular A&A blanket which we half swaddle him in. And the window is usually open at night (he's in with us still) unless it is too cold, the room is around 68 - 73F.

    Congrats on the boy :)
