True Life 1/18 - spoilers

Ok, its about sex offenders, but those that were having consensual sex with their partners, who were under 18.

This guy had sex w/ his 14 yr old girlfriend when he was 17. Her parents found out and then turned him in. He met with an attorney who said he may be able to get his name of the offenders list (as it is, he has to register for the rest of his life) and when the attorney asked him if it was his fault, he said NO. He said it was the school systems fault for letting adults be around kids ... so apparently if you're a senior and 17 you shouldn't be in the same school with freshman because you may not be able to keep it in your pants???????

... really?

  • Yeah, that guy really pissed me off.

How stupid of him. He obviously didn't learn the first time, although it was only a 2 year difference. His arrogance really irritated me. SHE WAS 14. You just escaped the previous case. Learn.

  • I felt like this show really highlighted the disparity of the laws on this in this country. The jerk guy, who kept saying it wasn't his fault and didn't take responsibility, and really wasn't even living where he was supposed to at the beginning, gets to have his name taken off the list. Whereas the other guy, whose gf turned him in after he broke up with her and who was trying so so hard to abide by his terms so much that he wouldn't even walk out of a store the same time as a child, has to have his name on the list for many more years. I did really feel bad for the nice guy.

It was also interesting to see how upset the jerk guy's victim was about what had happened to him as a result. I think if I was underage and my parents reported my boyfriend and this happened to him, I would feel guilt about it.

  • As for the girls who date and have consensual sex with adults, there needs to be a "jail bait" list.  Many of them are hardly victims.
