Discount cruise sites?

Which have you used that you got a great deal from?  Looking for a RCCL cruise in April-May.

TIA.

Definitely check out www.cruisecritic.com for tips, deals, info, etc.  It is an awesome site!  I learned so much!  You can even go on there and "meet" people to share the cost of excursions and even talk to others who are on your actual cruise.

  • cruisecompete.com

We booked a few cruises through the site.  Basically agencies bid for your business and put forth their best rate.

  • We booked ours through BestPriceCruises.com, found the best deal with them plus got shipboard credits.

  • I really like Crucon.com  If you sign up for their mailing list, they often have sales that include lots of free extras and apply to any sailing on a given cruiseline. Since a lot of cruiselines have stopped allowing discounted fares, the freebies like prepaid gratuities and shipboard credit can be very valuable.

I like vacationstogo to search, but I wouldn't recommend booking with them. I've booked with them twice and had problems both times.

The first was a traditional cruise, and the agent told the cruiseline that we wanted to be booked at a table for four. Explicitly "four." We talked to the ma?tre d' as soon as we got on board, and he said that, "Yeah, I thought that was weird. I figured you must be traveling with another couple, but your travel agent didn't give us the names for the other party, so I didn't really know what to do!" Luckily he was able to sort it out, but it involved a lot of back and forth with him during the first few days of the cruise as he waited for a table to open up.

The second time I booked with them was my Antarctic cruise. I really wanted to book the overnight camping excursion, and the company said it fills up early, so I asked my vacationstogo agent to book it as soon as possible. He told me I needed to wait until I joined the ship to book it. This was completely incorrect! When I reached the ship, they said that not only was it fully-booked, but because of the liability insurance you had to sign up in advance. So even if someone canceled, I still couldn't go. I was furious, because this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and when I got back and told the agent what happened, he just said, "Well that company doesn't usually require you to book excursions in advance." Gee. Thanks for checking.

Ditto.  We do this for every cruise - most of the actual cabin fare are the same no matter at what discount site you look, but the big difference is the on board credit.

  • If you're a member of costco I'd also look through them, we've booked two cruises through them and they were across the board cheaper than others I looked at.
