Chile-do we need to pay the fee if we are only connecting
in Santiago?
I can't seem to find the answer. DH and I are flying from Buenos Aire to Mendoza via Santiago...not sure if we will have to pay the $140 each if we are just connecting.
Re: Chile-do we need to pay the fee if we are only connecting
It depends on what nationality you are. US citizens/passport holders apparently do not require the transit visa as long as the transit is under 1 day.
But I would check with the Chilean Embassy to be sure. Always better to get directly from the Enbassy concerned.
We are US citizen that are currently living in Europe. Our connection in Santiago is only a few hours.
You pay the reciprocity fee when you're leaving the terminal and about to go through immigration. Assuming you stay in the terminal, I can't think of anywhere that you'd even be able to pay the fee, much less required to.
Out of curiosity, why the stop in Santiago rather than going straight to Mendoza?

I don't think there were direct flights from Buenos Aires (EZE) to Mendoza. We are flying LAN...
Oh no, from EZE I don't think there are. From AEP there are, and I didn't realize you were locked in to EZE.
