s/o healthy eating

What are your favorite healthy-eating restaurants?  I mean, I know many restaurants have a few items that are specifically marked as "healthy options" but I'm more talking like half the menu (or more) vs. just a handful of options.  I also know that you can box up half your meal to cut the fat/calories in half but I'd prefer a normal portion size in the first place.

I really like Seasons 52 and am hoping for some more ideas (especially if these ideas are also kid-friendly)

Re: s/o healthy eating

  • Pei Wei is one of my favorites since the nutrition info is on their site.  Panera also has a good site where you can calculate your meal's nutrition info.  Wegmans also has a great nutrition listing on their site so it's easy to calculate points and such.  We like pho because it's filling, delicious and relatively low calorie.  That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

  • i like nando's and home made pizza co (technically take out, i know) because they have their nutrition info available online.

i also love places like cava and any of the jose andres restaurants because tapas portion sizes allow me to feel like i am indulging but since it is all small plates, it is harder to overdo it. i also like thai, especially teak wood on 14th street. there are usually some options that are really good and still big portions. i also byblos in cleveland park for feeling like you have a lot of healthy options.

this is true & i forgot about it.  Lebanese Taverna is near us & I can totally make a meal out of their fatoosh salad (sp?) & a mezze size plate of swarma (sp?). That can't be too terrible for me?

I've only been to Nando's once, but that's another good thought esp. b/c I could take Sprout there.  It's a good excuse to go into the city!

  • Ruby Tuesdays because of the salad bar.

I also like sometimes going out to eat at Whole Foods.

  • Have you tried Zoe's Kitchen?  It's sort of a fast food type place, but the food is better and they bring it to your table.  There's a newish one in Ballston.  It's vaguely mediterranean with sandwiches, salads, some entrees; you can get awesome grilled veggies (generally carrots & broccoli) as a side so I feel like I'm being healthier.  We've taken T a few times for lunch and it's worked out great.

I haven't!  Will write it down & try it out!

It's great to have these places in my back pocket when we want to go out to eat (or don't feel like cooking) so we don't get tempted to order pizza.

  • I'm not really a chain person, but if a restaurant has an outlet in NYC or California, you can find all of the nutrition information online.

I know restaurants hate this, but I often ask to substitute a salad or steamed veggies (no butter) for the sides.   Sometimes I have a cup of broth based soup and an appetizer for dinner.  If the kiddos are with me, I will often order something that we all like so they can share with me.  DD is old enough to get her own kids meal, but DS still shares off of our plates and he often eats a 1/3 of my meal.  If DD really likes what I am having, she'll take some as well.

I really like Mediterranean food as a standby healthy option.  Labeanese Taverna and Aladdins are my two favorite Arlington locations.  I also love Vietnamese.  The food is so light.

Not when DH and I go on dates, but if we are out and grabbing lunch with the kids or an occasion like that, I just eat an apple before going into the restaurant.  It really helps me control how much I eat.

I love Aladdins in Shirlington.  The food is so light and they have a ton of really good vegetarian options.  It was DH's and my first date location Smile

You are in Arlington I think.  There is a Thai place, Thai Noy, in Westover.  They have the best veggie soup ever!  And their sauces are really light and delicious.  They also have brown rice.

  • Chop't is a favorite of time, you can make your own salad or choose from the comibinations they've created. Endless possibilities for healthy eating.

Founding Farmers in D.C. and Potomac - fresh. local, yummy

Seasons 52 in Tyson's Corner - fresh, local, menu changes seasonally and every menu item is 475 calories or less

Upper Crust (in D.C.) has whole wheat bread options for pizza, calzones and strombolis

Roti - D.C. again, in mediterranian (I can not spell) food

Don't forget that Chipotle now has brown rice, or you can do their salad option.
