State of the State, anyone?

We have Gov. Snyder's State of the State address on right now.

Anyone else watching?  Care to have a live discussion?

Willa just asked, "why is he talking only about Detroit?"  hee hee.  She's aware.

  • Kasa, he gave a shoutout to a local business in your hometown.

  • Willa rocks.

I'll hear about the address on NPR tomorrow, for now, it's all about trying to finish my reading for tomorrow's classes.

  • Just tuned in now. I have nothing to add except that is the Lt. Governor trying to photo bomb him?

The Lt Governor is a GVSU grad!  Go Lakers.

    And now I'm really leaving.

  • This is petty and addresses zero of the substance he talked about, but I can't believe how often he was stumbling over words. It was like he's never given a public speech before.

Man needs a teleprompter and some extemporaneous speaking classes.

    Belly laugh here. Very possible!

  • I opted for Netflix.
  • I agree, Chymes.  I'll bet his speech writers were mad.  There were a lot of dramatic statements that he made, but flubbed.

We missed 1/2 of it for cleanup.  I'll have to check up later.  Particuarly the Lt. Gov. antics. ;)

  • It was on during our no tv time. I totally forgot to set the DVR too. :o(

WHAAAT?!  That is shocking considering the dismal economy there.  Off to Google....

Ah, yes.  The local grocer who established his business as the anti-SuperWalMart.  Very nice shout out.  Although I give a little side-eye to the context.

  • I'm frustrated by how unemployment is counted.  Last night Snyder touted improvement in unemployment in MI.  The %s only measure people collecting unemployment benefits.  People who have "timed out" aren't counted. Y'all know at least one person who fits in this category (me).   I wish we could have an accurate count, and see if there was really any improvement.

I'm not blaming Snyder for this.  It's just the way that index is measured.

I completely agree.  I think it's also misleading because it doesn't count the "underemployed" who are also really struggling.

    I'm right there with you.

I agree. I know 2 other people who have had their benefits expire too....my mom & dad. Unfortunately most places won't hire people in their 60's. :o(
