If you've lived in Michigan for a long time....

You should be able to drive in the snow.  It's like everyone driving today was like OH EM GEE! It's snowing, I should be a terrible driver now.

It just cracks me up that everyone is all surprised when it snows.  This happens every.single.winter. this is nothing new people.

Re: If you've lived in Michigan for a long time....

  • I was just talking about this with a coworker.  I don't get it!!!
  • I grew up on the west side of the state where we get a TON more snow than here... I mean we get a foot of snow over there, when we get 3-4 inches here.  I had to learn how to drive in that.

I think this side of the state just has more aggressive drivers (snow or not), which leads to them freaking out in the snow.  You can't drive aggressively in crappy weather!!!  It's just not safe!

But yes, I agree completely that people freak out over here when there is a little bit of snow... It's annoying...

  • If it makes you feel any better, it's not a MI thing.  Here in Houston, where it rains all.the.time. (except this summer of course!) people go stupid whenever there is a drizzle.  I think kzoo was right...it's all about the driver and just going dumb!

  • People are idoits when they drive.. I will admit I do drive slower and take my time, but I am never in the fast lane when doing so. This AM this Ahole was riding my butt and finally decided to pass me and in the process started fishtailing and made the rest of us slam on our brakes... It's people like that, that drive me NUTS!!!

  • I agree with PP about it not being a Michigan thing but an idiot-driver thing.  Every...single...time it snows people FREAK out and drive 5mph with their flashers on.  It drives (or drove, since I live here now) me crazy!
  • My friend's FB status reads "I swear everyone's IQ drops 50 points in teh snow"  to which someone replied " and another 50 on the road in the snow ".

... That's really unfortunate since the average IQ is 100 ...

  • Agreed. This isn't Texas, one snowflake isn't cause for panic.  I spent sometime living in the U.P. so maybe I have a snow advantage over others, but seriously come one.

  • This morning traffic was going about 60 on 96 and I was fine with it. But then you have these dumba*ses trying to drive 80 and weaving in and out of traffic and riding peoples butts, like they will get somewhere faster if they do.

Lol, I was in Austin last year in January and it snowed.  People were freaking out.  It was pretty funny!

  • I drove slower than normal in the snow today because others were being crazy. I saw way too many people off the road and in accidents today!
On my way up Haggerty and when I got to Hines there was a car that couldn't get up that little hill area. I felt bad for him but was pissed off that he almost caused a few accidents because of it all!

I used to live in Houston and I agree.  It would be practically hurricane weather and you couldn't see 5 feet in front of you and people would still be driving like 80 on the highway.  Although, you also would see them a few minutes later crashed on the side of the road.
