Iberostar Dominicana in Punta Cana
Has anyone been?
H and I had decided to go to the Excellence resort in Punta Cana, but as we were comparing prices on different sites, we saw that the Iberostar Dominicana was significantly cheaper.
The resort got great reviews online, but the pictures of the resort are just kind of meh for me (on the other hand, the Iberostar Grand Bavaro looks really nice, but is more money than Excellence). Looking at the site for the Iberostar Dominicana doesn't excite me the way the Excellence resort does.
However, the price difference is pretty significant, so if anyone has stayed there, please let me know what you thought.
Re: Iberostar Dominicana in Punta Cana
My SIL HMed at Grand Bavaro in July '09 and raved about it so much that my ILs vacationed there in April '10. Both couples have loved it and said they'd go back in a heartbeat.
ILs went to book it for this spring and saw that the prices have risen a lot so they opted to go elsewhere in DR (although I don't remember the resort).
H and I have it on our list of future "relaxing" vacations to go on. I don't know anything about Excellence.

I've stayed at the Dominicana and Bavaro. The Grand Bavaro wasn't built yet the last time I went. The Bavaro is all suites, sort of quad style bungalows. The Dominicana and Punta Cana are are almost identical looking (more hotel style) but the PC is the "lowest" tier of those four hotels and didn't have full exchange privileges. I had no problems with the Dominicana. We had a suite on the top level and it was really nice.
What makes a huge difference for me with the Iberostars is the staff. They are awesome and wonderful. They remembered us each year by name, even our nicknames. My mom and step dad still go almost every year and its mainly because of the staff.

Interesting. So if you stay at one you can visit the other resorts as part of your package?
Do you need a shuttle transfer or are they all on the same site?
Yes. Typically with Iberostar there are several different hotels/levels. Each hotel has a certain bracelet color you wear throughout the week and that deteremines where you do and don't have access too. They resorts are usually all on the same site.
