What to do with old magazines?

So, I subscribe to like 4 mags, and usually pick up All You at Wal-Mart every month. Needless to say, last semester (while taking 18 hours), they really piled up on me. I finally flipped through them today. Now I have like 15 mags and have no clue what to do with them. There is no recycle pick-up in my neighborhood. I'm sure I could find one somewhere in town. Do you donate your old mags to any organizations? Any tips? I just hate to throw this many of them in the trash. TIA!

  • I take mine to work, and leave them in the breakroom. You could donate them to a Senior Citizen center, or drop them off at a Doctor's office.
  • You could donate them to a daycare...when I worked at a child development center, we used them alllll the time for different crafts, browsing, etc.  Much better than flash cards, and kids loved them in the book center!

This, but I don't donate mine to daycare because we use them at home for this.  We cut pictures out of them and use them for crafts.  My kid loves nothing more than to glue pictures to construction paper.

  • One of the used book stores in the area buys them, not for much but does buy them. Or you can donate them to a school, high school if older subjects like Cosmo lol but art teachers love them and used various magazines in high school for a "Life" class
  • Call a hospital volunteer office. I donated stacks and stacks of magazines and I thought that they were going to kiss me. I had already cut off the address labels, too.
  • I see people offering old magazines on Freecycle a lot.

  • i bring them to doctor's offices... i'm a drug rep so i'm in them all the time- and just bring anything i have already read into the next office i go to.

i have also brought htem to the gym.... etc.

    i hate throwing them out.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • If all else fails, recycle them. All the schools around here have a big paper recycle dumpster in the parking lot. I have donated them to the library and highschool art classes before.
  • I usually take mine to work and leave in the breakroom. I have also taken them to the library. They sell them for 25 cents a piece, along with old books they are trying to get rid of.

  • I recycle mine. But good idea about dropping them off at your office!

  • i love the ideas about dropping them off at nursing homes, doctors offices, day-care centers, gyms, etc.  The gym I used to belong too really had a bare bones selection of magazines, so it was always so nice when someone brought them by.

I would also suggest finding out if any of your friends/family like to read mags but don't have subscriptions.  My sister and I save money by passing on our old mags to each other, and my husband's aunt always gives me her old House Beautiful mags.  It's a cooperative and nice way to save some money!
