Here's what's going on with me (long and TMI)

I have been feeling a strange internal pressure/cramping off and on for a couple of weeks now, but it's not a constant pain and it's not excruciating enough to keep me from working, cooking, cleaning, etc.     Just a minor piercing pain that comes in waves and maybe lasts about 10-20 mins then slowly simmers down.

Yesterday I went to my lady doctor hoping that it was perhaps an ovarian cyst, since both mom and sister have had those before.   We do the ultrasound and ovaries look just fine, but she does see a mass or lump around the appendix/colon area.    So I go to the next doctor, who is also a surgeon, and go over some of the symptoms and such.   He named some symptoms that I had noticed but tried to ignore in my own head (poop-related) and confirmed that there is a lump that is not likely to go away by itself and will have to be removed.

Tomorrow is the fun day where I get to go in and do all the blood tests, CT scan, and all that to figure out exactly where it is and what it is (tumor, cyst, etc) because we still don't know for sure if it is the appendix or the colon.   I may possibley have to have a colonoscopy before it's all said and done.  Tongue Tied

Anyhow, I won't know much until all that is done, but I am hoping, praying, and wishing that if he does say I need surgery that we can put it off until Jan 30, so my upcoming plans aren't affected.   I have been dealing with it already for a couple of weeks and I don't see why I couldn't wait another week before surgery at this point, since the pain isn't really THAT unbearable.

So please cross your fingers for me that it turns out to be just a cyst and that they will allow me to postpone any procedures until I am ready.    I really don't want to jump into surgery next week because it will be my birthday (who wants to be in a hospital OR in your bed on that day?)  and the big G2G next weekend, which I have been preparing for and can't bear the idea of missing.

I will follow up when I know more information, especially for the G2G gals so you don't have to worry.  I plan to be there come hell or high water, and will do all the convincing I can to put things off until after that, so long as I don't do any more internal damage.

  • Oh my gosh Erin!  You are too strong and brave for your own good!  Please keep us updated and I will think happy, healthy thoughts for you!

PS, they will not postpone any surgery despite what you say.  If you need it and are in pain, they will push you to proceed.

  • I just wanted to let you know you're wrong. I DO want to be in bed on my birthday. Wink

And yikes! I hope all is well and you figure it out asap. That's no fun...

  • T&Ps for you!  I hope that they say it is no big deal to put the surgery on hold but do what you need to do to take care of yourself.  You'll have other bdays and other GTGs.
  • Oh Erin, that sucks!!  I'll be praying for good results from all the tests and crossing my fingers that you can attend the gtg as scheduled.

  • Oh, no! I sincerely hope it's nothing serious. I know we've all been looking forward to the GTG forever, but your health comes first and everyone knows that! *greatBIGhug*
  • Erin, I am so sorry you're feeling like this. I hope it is just a cyst. My fingers are crossed that it can be put off and that it's no big deal.

If its any consolation, my mom had an appendectomy and was up and moving the day after. You're much younger than she is and I know you can fight off whatever it is quicker.

You are in my thoughts girl

Sheesh, I was hoping I could reason with the doc's, now you shot my hopes down.

The lady doc did say that it was very noticeable once she got to that area and that I must have a high tolerance for pain, most people would have come in a long time ago she said.

Just to be clear, some days I don't feel it at all and it's not a problem.   Other times it's just a short term annoyance, I sit down or lay down and wait it out, then it's gone.    If it had been a constant pain that never went away at all, I would have been more concerned and would be more willing to do surgery ASAP.

When I hear about people like vxs who deal with REAL pain, it makes me think I can handle this shizz for another week.   I think it's being stubborn more than it is being brave.

I hope it's the best news it can be, it can be taken care of quickly, and that you have a speedy recovery.

  • Oh my goodness, Erin! I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well and may need surgery. I'm sending you all the good health vibes I can and hope the doctors can come up with a happy medium as to not affect your birthday or the gtg. Please keep us updated!

  • ((big hugs)), your docs sound like they are taking good care of you.
  • I'm sorry Erin. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts, and hoping things go as smooth as possible for you.

    This! This! This!

You take care of you!  That's way more important than the gtg!  We'd miss you like crazy, obviously, but no one wants you to be in pain or make your situation worse just to see us.  *HUGS*

  • Oh Erin!

*Big hugs* I don't know what to say without scaring you. Take care of yourself and I hope it turns out to be nothing (a cyst seems like the least scariest), even if you do have to have surgery in the next week. T&Ps to you!

  • Oh, god, Erin, I'm so sorry to hear this!

    I hope it's a quick, easy, non-colonoscopy treatment!
Not to worry though, if you need the surgery sooner than later, I'll come pick you up and drive you.. with a donut in the seat, the windows down, and a lighter ready

hah, I was already thinking in my head who I could convince to drive me up there, if I am too doped up on meds or too weak to drive myself (if surgery is pushed on me for next week).     I think I have enough friends in the area that would do that for me as a birthday gift if I requested it.    I was seriously in tears yesterday at the doc's about the thought of missing the G2G, not the thought of going under the knife.  Mom looked at me like I was crazy, she said, "your friends will understand, that's the only thing you are worried about?"

I didn't go into detail that these friends were coming in from out of state, so she probably thinks my priorities are totally off right now.  Stick out tongue
