Did you hear what the Costa Captain is saying now?

That Coast Guard captain is such a BAMF.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Yeah. There's also word that they're trying to track down a pretty blonde, who wasn't on the manifest, who they think he might have been trying to impress.
Dodgy.
LittleJen,
This is C&P'ed from an article:
"In maritime tradition and law, Schettino, the captain of the ship, is supposed to go down with the ship?or at least wait until everyone is rescued. Instead, he claims he "tripped and fell" into a lifeboat. "
I really don't think it's Italian law being strict. I think this would happen many places.
There was also a story about the Hungarian violinist who helped people onto life boats and then went back inside to play before he died. Made me think of the Titanic. So sad.
Taken from this article: http://www.globalnews.ca/jailed+captain+of+costa+concordia+is+being+placed+under+house+arrest/6442560909/story.html
"Jailed since the accident, Schettino appeared before a judge Tuesday and was ordered held under house arrest, his lawyer, Bruno Leporatti, told reporters. Criminal charges including manslaughter and abandoning ship are expected to be filed by prosecutors in coming days. He faces 12 years in prison for the abandoning ship charge alone."
