poll: make this decision for me
I'm clearly really focused at work right now . . . anyway I want a new grey coat. I finally found two that I like (on sale at Zulily).
I want something I can wear for work and more casual outings, and I like
the shorter length on them (my other wool coats are all past the knee).

This one is $60. The hood is removable.

This one is $80.
I like them both--I think the first one is cuter, but the second one is a little fancier.
Thoughts?

Re: poll: make this decision for me
I voted #1 b/c even though #2 is really pretty - I think that double breasted coats always look kind of funny if you wear them open - and I wear my coats open, or not completely buttoned all the way up - most of the time...
They're both really cure though!
I really don't like the 2nd one. The buttons make is seem chinzy to me. If they were matte - maybe they'd look better?
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
I love, love, love the cut/style of the second one but like pp said, it won't look good unless buttoned up and the buttons could make or ruin the coat (tough to tell without seeing IRL). I also think the second one might be less forgiving if you're wearing a long, bulky sweater or simply having a fat butt day.
Despite all the above, I voted for #2, but those are the factors I'd weigh before purchasing.
I think #2 is super cute. #1 is just kinda meh to me, but I love the polished look of double breasted coats. I can't find any to show you right now, but you might want to search for cropped peacoats. I have one from Old Navy from a year or two ago (so does DCtoLow, I think) that I really love. It's not grey though.
ETA. the one I have is this, I think. But in a peacock color, not those fuggy plaids. Again, not helpful because not grey.
Same here. A hood is a must for me in winter!
Planning Bio
I voted 1 because I liked it better and because it has a hood. I think hoods are important with kids. When it's raining or snowing, I can't carry an umbrella, a diaper bag, a baby carrier, and hold my 2 year old's hand at the same time. So, the umbrella is the thing I have to give up. Because of that, I'm now a big fan of hoods.
ETA: One other thing is that #2 looks a bit more fitted whereas #1 looks like it's a bit roomier. I have a jacket similar to #2 and sometimes I can't wear bulky sweaters or suit jackets under it because it's more fitted around the rib cage and under the arms.
