Place to find cheap, used pro camera's?

Does anyone have suggestions or websites besides craigslist or ebay where I might find a used professional camera (or DSLR, whatever they are called)?

My little pseudo-daughter (former student that my H and I help out) is a freshman in college and she has become really interested in photography this year and I would love to help her hone in on her hobby and skills but I really can't spend $500 on a camera for her.

TIA!

Re: Place to find cheap, used pro camera's?

  • BHPhoto & Adorama (.com) both fully inspect their used equipment. Usedcameras.com is another reputable online company.

What price range and camera body are you looking at? I can keep an eye out on CM (Clickn' Moms).

ETA: I would never buy one off of Ebay or Craigslist.

  • I have a friend who is a photographer who has purchased all her equipment from ebay. FWIW, I think you just have to buy from reputable sellers. But, it's your purchase so do what feel comfortable for you. :)

I got mine at Target after christmas when the sales were super awesome. But even then, I spent around $500.

  • I'll ask my friend if he's still selling his camera and for how much. They barely used it, just bought it because my friend (his wife) wanted to learn photography when I started getting into it too. She wanted to learn w me but realized she's not really into it hehe. Ill keep you posted. It's a canon rebel.

  • Thanks for your input! I really don't know what brand or whatever, I wanted to just look around and see how inexpensive I could even find one.  My camera was around $600 that H got me last bday and it's a nikon.  I use it just for fun and when the baby comes it will be great to have a nice camera, but for a college student just dabbling into photography, I don't think it really matters since right now she's using an old point and shoot.
