Interview Q - How to answer this question

I work in a toxic environment. The bosses are ego maniacs with Napoleon complexes. They act like wanna be mafia goons. Our pay is frozen for years, our benefits are being cut more and more each year, and I am no longer challenged.

So whats the correct answer when asked on an interview "why are you looking to change jobs?" I know I can't say that its because my boss behaves like Tony Soprano with an IQ of 65.

FYI... I am applying for a job that is very very similar to what I do now.

Re: Interview Q - How to answer this question

  • Be honest but diplomatic

    • I'm looking for more of a challenge than my current position provides
    • I'm looking for more opportunities for advancement
    • I really liked the company culture from the research I've done, and I think my talents would be a good fit for your team

    Think outside the box.

  • I think that looking for more challenging work is a good way to state it.
  • Tell them that there is no career advancement available.

If you can swing it and it is applicable, tell them you do not like the lengthy commute.

  • I agree with Dr. L.

I just wanted to add -  not to bash your last job or current job. The mere fact that you want something more challenging should be enough to answer the question.

  • I had the same problem coming to my current job, and I said "I am looking for a position with more opportunities for growth".  You want to be slightly vague but positive and professional, good luck!
