Re: More SO talk

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? I'm more stingy-- if he wants something, he buys it. I try to use coupons/ discounts/ sales and he doesn't. I'm always worried about money and he doesn't.

Do you get along with your SO's family? Yes, they accept me completely into their family-- we have our issues and it can be very stressful to be there at times but I get along with them. I actually feel more accepted in their family than I do in mine.

Does your SO collect anything? No

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? - Now  I am (not always the case).  I pay attention to the bank and I don't waste money.  I feel like Pat's habit of stopping at a convenience store for soda and candy is such a waste.  I don't care that he wants it, but I wish he'd buy it at the grocery store where you can get a 2 liter bottle for just over $1 and he spends $1.50 on a small size one.  Kills me.

Do you get along with your SO's family?  - We get along fine.  Mostly because I bite my tongue.  We don't see his extended family because they live in northern Maine (6-7 hours from us).

Does your SO collect anything?  - Not really.  He'd like to collect pinball machines, but they're kind of large so until we have a game room we're going to stick with one!

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? I'd say we're even. I'm cheap and better at shopping around. DH knows more about investing. We rarely disagree about money things.

Do you get along with your SO's family? I would say yes. My BIL drives me batty, though, and I don't really get many of the ILs' "family, family, family, all the time" attitude (that's a shared view with DH), so we're kind of the odd ducks.

Does your SO collect anything? Not really. He has lots of Illini stuff, but I wouldn't say it's a collection.

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? We're actually both pretty good with money. FF has excellent credit and manages his money well, despite never balancing a checkbook. We've already decided that I'll be the one in control of bill-paying/finances when we combine our accounts. We have very similar outlooks on money when it comes to spending, saving and investing.

Do you get along with your SO's family? Yes! I think I'm a breath of fresh air to them compare to his XW. His mom even made the comment of, "I know this marriage will last -- I have a good feeling about this one, unlike his first" LOL

Does your SO collect anything? Antique John Deere tractors. And not the little die-cast models either. The big, real, antique ones.  He also collects money...$2 bills, unique bills, old coins, etc.

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? I'm better, he tends to buy a lot of stupid little things and it adds up.

Do you get along with your SO's family? Yes, we have our moments but I really do like them a lot.  I work with my FIL so that makes things easier.

Does your SO collect anything? He has an old comic book collection and he likes action figures but the art ones, so he has a bunch of fancy alien and predators figures.

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? we're about the same and have very similar outlooks. I am a little more inclined to make random purchases (food, clothes, etc) but nothing budget busting.

Do you get along with your SO's family? sure

Does your SO collect anything? not really, unless you count the collection of tournament tees from HS raquetball - club side rugby in our attic.

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? I am.  He is always buying things he doesn't really need and it annoys me because I see the money he spends as money we could be putting towards saving for a house.

Do you get along with your SO's family? Yes. I actually prefer to be with his family than with my own as sad as that is.  They aren't judgemental like most of my family is.

Does your SO collect anything? Yes.  STIHL Chainsaws.

  • DH is better with money. In fact I wouldn't be free of my CCs if it hadn't been for him.

Yes, his family is great. I wish that we had more time with his mom before she passed...

He isn't really a collector. He has some kind of memento from all of the different countries he has been too, but he doesn't collect any one type of thing.

  • Who is better with money, you or your SO? I'd say we're both pretty good with money.  Although, he is better about believing "it'll come back" after a bigger purchase, and I have a super hard time convincing myself to make the purchase. (ie. he convinved me to book the trip to Cancun in Jan. 2010 telling me we'd be fine with refunds and whatnot.  About a week after we booked it I freaked about because of all the "what if we need the money for....? scenarios)

Do you get along with your SO's family? Yup. Well, most of the time.  It's better now that we're not living with them Stick out tongue But SIL can be a bit bratty at times.

Does your SO collect anything? Nope. He hate clutter.
