Talk to me about strollers
For some reason, this is the part of registering that is stressing me out the most. I have currently registered for the SnugRider, which is basically a frame that our infant car seat will snap in to, and the City Mini. Both were decided on based on a combination of recommendations from friends, and Baby Bargains.
Do these sound like smart options, or am I way off-base? Keep in mind that we live in the suburbs, so we drive most places. I want something that's good quality but doesn't weigh 8 million pounds.
Re: Talk to me about strollers
That's exactly what we did.
The snap n go was awesome. Great for small trips to the mall and/or grocery store.
I like the City Mini but I wish I had gone for the City Select for a few reasons. I didn't like the way a bar attached to it if I wanted to attach the car seat so I didn't use the stroller until she got older. I don't like the basket on the bottom of the Mini. I can't fit a diaper bag in it b/c the opening is too small. I almost feel like she's getting too big for it at the moment.
It is a good stroller, don't get me wrong. I love the one handed fold up as well as the large umbrella/cover thing. The wheels are great and you can steer it with one hand.
However, I feel like the Select has way more options esp of you plan to have more then one kid. If you have room in the budget or have someone that will get it for you from your registry, IMO it's worth it.
I had the snap n go (same as snugrider) and the infant seat bar attachment for the City Mini. I suggest skipping the snugrider and instead getting car seat attachment bar to make City Mini a travel system. I loved how much higher son sat and the ease of pushing the City Mini is far superior than the snugrider. Also, I did not want to have two strollers- just wanted one! I ended up inheriting a Bugaboo Frog when son was 6 months old and I love it- but it is not a very portable stroller for the burbs. I keep it in house for neighborhood walks and keep City Mini in car.
We have a bugaboo chameleon that we love, as well as a Maclaren Triumph. The bugaboo is great if you'll be walking to places from your house. If you'll be driving, it might be a pain to fold up each time. We just keep ours in our entryway and use it for walks to the park and around the neighborhood. If we were in the 'burbs when Oliver was born, I would have gone w/ the city mini.
I think you'd be good with just the city mini and the carseat adaptor.
The one thing I didn't like about the car seat adapter is that it's just a bar that the carseat rests on. It doesn't click in all the way around and the only way to secure it is with a strap that goes over the baby. It didn't seem stable enough to me whereas the snap n go clicks the seat in just like it clicks into the base.
Also, essentially you're making a travel system when you do that. You're lugging around a full size stroller then putting a carseat on top of it. It's bulky and not easy to lift and maneuver (esp if you're recovering from a csection.)
Again, JMO but I loved my snap n go.
Nevermind, I take that back then. I thought it would click into the seat or something. Sounds a little rickety.
My goal with strollers was to buy one that I could use for everything. I ended up buying two, but only because I had another baby so quickly and needed a double
I had a Maxi Cosi Foray that I love love loved. I wished they made a double version, because it was awesome. Super lightweight frame, air filled tires, easy to fold, it worked like a travel system but wasn't big and bulky
ETA - I meant to add that my carseat snapped right into the stroller frame. When you are done with the infant seat, the stroller has its own seat that you snap in. So it had the convenience of a snap and go, but nicer. There are strollers out there that have that feature
We got a Phil & Ted's Explorer with the doubles kit and I like that a lot too. It has taken a beating for 2.5 years and is still going strong, easy to maneuver, can be a single or a double, doesn't take up a lot of space. I got a great deal on it online, so we more than got our money's worth
That said, if I was in the market for a double (or stroller that can convert to a double) right now, I would probably look at the BJ City Select or the Uppa Baby Vista

We have the City Select but honestly haven't used it yet. Same issue as mentioned above - don't love the way our infant car seat "adapts"to it.
Snap n Go - love it.
Another vote for the City Select - I love it! Ditto everything everyone said about the carseat adapter - it was secure enough, but it bugged me that I never got that satisfying "click". However, he survived.
I was thinking the other day that I might get a snap and go when and if we had number too - just for quick stuff like running into a store, assuming DS1 was walking. Mainly so I could just stash it in the trunk and leave it there - the CS is a little big for that.
