Flying with booster seat

We are taking our booster seat for our 5 yr old when we fly USair. I have not been able to find any info on how to check it. Any one know if we check it is there a charge? Can I just put it in a plastic bag? Is gate checking better (don't really want to carry it around). Thanks for any insight! Google has failed me.

It is a car seat and car seats don't count as baggage so you can check it with luggage, or you can carry it on board and put it overhead.

we always carryon and put in the overhead bin. If you don't want to carry it around then you can check it - I've been charged $5 for the plastic bag to put it in but there is no actual baggage fee for it.

I recommend buying a car seat bag to protect it better than a plastic bag (remember, luggage gets tossed around a lot). And check it with your luggage, it's free. It's so much easier to check with your luggage rather than gate checking it. If you gate check, it's one more thing to lug through security, airport, etc.
