ordering a cake from safeway??

Anyone have any experience ordering from them?  Confession: I have never ordered a cake before, so I need some help! Stick out tongue  DH's birthday is Sunday and we are having a pitch-in type get together at his parents house for the game and I was put in charge of getting the cake.  If I ordered today, would they be able to even do it by Sunday?  Safeway is our closest grocery store and I shop there pretty often so it's convenient.  Also, if you have ordered from there....do they have the "whipped cream" type icing or the really thick sugary kind??  Ok...sorry for the random questions!

Re: ordering a cake from safeway??

  • Safeway does have the whipped cream icing cakes.  They are pretty tasty!  I haven't ordered them myself, but we've had them at family gatherings.

Oh awesome!  Thanks for letting me know!

  • I personally think they are super yummy!
  • I've gotten a couple birthday cakes from there.  If you get a standard decorations, you probably only need to order a day in advance.

  • Ordering cakes-

Grocery stores generally ask for 24-48 hours for a custom cake. They also usually have premaid cakes where the center is empty and they add the writing while you wait.  The latter are available first-come, first-serve.

You should have plenty of time to order a cake if you call now.  The only issue would be if they have already recieved a lot of orders and have stopped accepting orders for this weekend due to high demand.  (A possibility because of play off parties.)

  • Thanks for all the help ladies!  I went to Safeway earlier and put my order in with no problem!  And I got the whipped cream icing...MIL would always get cakes with the super sugary icing on it and DH always said it was too much, so I'm excited to get him this kind instead.
