My husband recently received a job offer at the Rockwell Collins Company in Cedar Rapids. We currently live in Corpus Christi, Tx and we may be possibly be moving within the next three weeks. I was just wondering if there is anyone who can give me any information on the area. Neither of us have ever even been to Iowa. I know this forum is for Des Moines residents, however, any kind of information would be wonderful and greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!

I lived in Hiawatha (a suburb of Cedar Rapids). My best friend and her husband both work for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids and live in Swisher, which is also a suburb to the south of CR.
I'd be glad to help if I can or ask my friend any questions. Feel free to email me at melidoodls at aol.com
My husband and I just moved to Iowa City (10mi South of Cedar Rapids) from the west coast - it's extremely cold here right now. It's also super dry I swear, I'm going through moisturizer like crazy! My advice would be to get a good humidifier.
Also, CR, as I've noticed, has a certain...scent to it. They apparently make a lot of cereal there - General Mills has a factory there. It's a small town so you're close to everything but there aren't many grocery stores. I'm used to being able to go to 5 or 6 stores and here there isn't much.
The people are warm and friendly though and nobody looks at you funny if you need to ask for directions.
Hope this helps.
That is helpful! Thank you so much! We already have a humidifier. I lived in Michigan most of my life before moving to Texas so I understand what the winters are like. My husband on the other hand has this vision in his head about how great its going to be to live in the cold. He keeps telling me he loves the cold and I keep telling him you've never lived in it! lol
So this scent..is it a stinky smell??
Cedar Rapids does smell at times. Some people claim it changes based on the different cereals and oat products being produced!
ETA: The smell is not necessarily a "bad" smell but depending on where you are and what direction the wind is blowing sometimes it can be strong.
