In the news...
I have three stories I wanted to read (I almost wrote "hear") your comments on:
1. The ship captain on the cruise ship that went down says he did not abandon ship but rather, "fell" into a life boat. Ummmm.... okay.
2. Did you see the bear crawling away from the fire because his paws were burned? OMG so sad!! He is being treated.
3. What do you think about Paula Deen hiding her Diabetes diagnosis for three years given how unhealthy her food is? She is "out" now because she is a spokesperson for a Diabetes med.
Thoughts on any of this?
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
Re: In the news...
1) It seems like it's the captain's fault for changing course, so he should've stayed on the boat. And he knew signing up for that job, that it was a possibility so it seems really cowardly. I just can't imagine the panic on that boat.
2) did not see the bear thing...where did that happen?
3) Paula Deen. I think it's funny that she's capitalizing on her disease by promoting a medication. Many people can manage diabetes without medication (although I know sometimes it is necessary). But she should be teaching people how to make adjustments to their diets without needing to go on meds...if she's really that great of a cook, she should show it by making healthy meals that are good for you!

3. I think ppl want to throw her under the bus like they do McDonalds. It is not her personal responsibility to feed the world. We all make our own choices and sometimes we choose things that are bad for us. It isn't her responsiblity or McDonalds or whatever to give us only healthful choices. She is older and eats very unhealthfully. It sucks but it is what it is. I don't blame her for cashing in. I know she is leaving a lot of the food stuff out of it but any human with an ounce of intelligence can put together that her eating habits affected her weight and insulin to promote this disease within her.

2. I didn't see the story, that's really sad. I hope he recovers, poor guy!
3. I don't really know all the facts, but I would ask whether by not going public, PD was "hiding" her diabetes. I can understand people, even celeb people, wanting to keep their medical issues private/personal. I respect that. I mean I get that she puts herself in the spotlight for cooking and yes, it would be nice for her to offer healthy alternatives, but I still don't think she's obliged to "tell" the public about her personal health diagnosis.
Now, if she straight-up lied/denied a diagnosis, well, that's a different story. Not cool. I'd be ok w/ her declining to comment (for the reasons above), but lying or misrepresenting her health, totally wrong, IMO.
1. So many things wrong...he left it in the hands of someone else to get close so they could wave so he wasn't even there which is crazy but then when he was he didn't help he bailed. They didn't even practice the safety evacuation like they should've. Good for that Coast Gaurd for telling him to get back on. And I agree I love Italy too

3. I am all for celebrities keeping things quiet. An issue I have with it is that she promoted the dishes she did and then acted like no big deal. And now wants to capitalize on a medication. And I agree not everyone has to be on medication because if you just change your diet and exercise it's doable but not for all. I think I have a bigger issue with the cashing in on and endorsing the meds more than anything. Like thor said it's not McDonald's or her responsibility to offer "healthy choices" it's our choice to not eat the bad stuff and everyone knows her stuff is loaded with butter and unhealthy stuff...very good but only in moderation.
1. I wasn't in his position, so I will not fault him for saving his own butt. It's easy to pass judgement when you aren't the one in danger. However, I always thought a Captain is supposed to go down with his ship. And changing course for a head waiter to wave at his family is just stipid.
2. Poor teddy bear! I hope he gets better.
3. I think she's a terrible hypocrite. I know she always said that she's your chef, not your physician.. but seriously? You know you have a disease brought on by your personal lifestyle choices. So, what do you do? Do you change the way you eat? Think about your food differently? Work on how to better youself? NO! Why on Earth would you do that?! Instead, continue cooking and eating the way you always did, and ENCOURAGE people to follow suit. OK, the woman eats her greens.. but how healthy are collards after you cook the in cream and bacon fat? Everything in moderation, but she never showed you what to "moderate" it with. And on that note, I've tried her recipes, and they're terrible.
I'm late here, but:
1. This guy is just digging himself in deeper and deeper. I didn't fault him if he left - who is to say what any one would do when your life is in danger. What's bad to me is that he keeps lying and changing his story. First he jumped off, then he "fell" into a lifeboat like you said. It's getting ridiculous. Own up to your mistakes.
2. No idea what this is about.
3. I could care less if she had a disease and hid it. What does bug me is that she's now endorsing foods cooked the way we know she does and then endorsing the pill. It's like saying "Here, eat a bunch of sh&t, but don't worry about it because you can just take this pill!". Seems kind of messed up.
I can understand that she's in a hard position, but I think a lot of people would have respected her if she started cooking more healthily as a response to the disease instead of just keeping on the same track for fear that her business would collapse. I bet a lot of people would have watched if she started changing over to see what the queen of butter could do with some healthy options. Kind of a "well, if Paula Deen can make something healthy, I can too!" thing.
1- the captain is a straight joke. He should be ashamed and I bet this time next year costa cruises will be bankrupt.
2- I did not see this but it sounds horrible.
3- Paula..... I think I agree with lsu's comment. It's her business. But, to capitalize on it annoys me.
