How far in advance to book Old Lahaina Luau?

I'm going to Maui in April an wondered when should I book the luau and should I choose conventional seating or mat? I've never been to a luau before and heard this is one of the better ones.

Thanks.

  • The advantage to the mats is that you are a little closer to the stage and you get to the buffet first.  The disadvantage is that it is a little harder to get to the bar, and it might be a little uncomfortable, especially if you are wearing a dress.  Most of the kids like to sit on the mats also.  We sat at a conventional table and reserved 2-3 months out for a good spot.  Reserve asap for a good table.

But the waiters will bring drinks to you, so this isn't too much of an issue.

The mixed drinks are extremely watered down though. To get the most out of your money (since open bar is wrapped into the price), stick with beer or wine.

  • We actually sat in chairs when we went.  Our table went to the buffet before anyone else, and we were closest to the bar (although ITA the servers are fantastic and brought us drinks before we even asked each time)!  win win!

  • We are in Maui now and will be going to the luau on Wednesday! I booked it over 1 month ago and at the time space was already limited! Definitely book as far ahead as possible!!

We've always chosen conventional table & chairs because we have our DS with us and sitting on the mats with him would be annoying (especially at this age when he is constantly wanting to run away!! Lol). Also, I have back problems so I'm just more comfortable in a chair. I do think it would be fun to do the traditional seating though!
