Coming out of lurking! Anyone live in S Africa?

You can usually find me on MM as I've been there for years but I recently found out I'm moving to S Africa. Most likely I'll be in Cape Town. Anyone live there? :) Well even if you don't I'm sure I'll have a million questions in the upcoming months about packing and whatnot. Look forward to hanging out here more!

Re: Coming out of lurking! Anyone live in S Africa?

  • HI!  I "know" you because I usually lurk on MM.  Glad to finally meet you.  Party!!!

I'm an American living in Australia with my Aussie H.

  • Yay! Someone's coming to my end of the world! I've been in Cape Town for almost a year and half now. Ask away!

We also have a South African IN living in the UK (from Cape Town) and a couple INs married to South Africans and scattered about.

  • Hi and welcome!  We're in KL at the moment, but since the idea of relocating to Joburg in a year has been thrown at H three times now I'll be soaking up the answers to all of your questions.

  • Hi, I am in the UK, but Cape Town is my home town. My hubby and I are both South African, both from CPT. Welcome to the board and feel free to ask any questions. When you have an idea of what area's you are looking at moving to let me know and I will be able to guide you as to whether you want to live there or not.

Potato Pie - are you going to be in CPT in Dec? I am coming home for a month and we can have a GTG?

  • That's exciting!  Welcome.  I went to S Africa on my honeymoon and loved it, but that's quite different from living there!

I'm a Canadian/American living in London with my American DH.  Hope to see you around here more.

  • Hi! I'm nowhere near South Africa, but welcome to the board!

I'm an American living in Norway. And since it comes up and is very confusing: I currently share a flat with my Indian ex-husband, and I'm in an LDR with a guy in Brazil.

  • Welcome to the board! Not in SA (in London) but we did go to Cape Town for our honeymoon and loved it- good luck with your move!
  • Another recognize-you-from-MM here.

I have a friend who's been in SA the past month or so, but that's my only connection.  Have you found a volunteering job to do while you're there?

I'm an American with a Norwegian SO who's living in limbo/Norway right now, soon to move to Australia.  Welcome!

  • Welcome to the board! I look forward to reading more about your move.

I'm Canadian living in France with my Canadian/French H and 3.5 year old son.

Woohoo! CT GTG! Hopefully we will be here. My brother is getting married in Chicago on NYE, but we want to go closer to that date rather than sooner. I'll let you know about plans.

Yay, I'm sure I'll definitely have some questions :)

  • Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

I'll be doing an internship for 1 year with a large non-profit that works mostly in S. Africa, but is expanding in other parts of Africa. I'm a 3rd year med student, so I'll be taking a year off, then I'll come back to finish my last year.

I think my H will be there for 2 years and it looks like some of you all have gone through the looooong distance relationship thing, so I'll probably be asking about that too :)
