Mother/daughter trip

My mom and I want to take a short three day trip somewhere, just the two of us.  We want to fly somewhere, but we don't want longer than a three hour flight from PA.  We are not city people at all, so we'd prefer somewhere outside of a major city.  We enjoy historical things, sightseeing, shopping, dining, active stuff.  Any ideas?

Re: Mother/daughter trip

  • Savannah, Denver, or Austin come to mind.

So far my mom and I have done a mom/daughter trip to San Diego and Austin. Both were a blast. I want to take her to Savannah--it's such a nice town. The Marshall House has a girls' weekend package.

  • Savannah would be perfect.

My mom and I enjoyed a long weekend there last February.  Amazing historic city, cute shops, good restaurants, and sightseeing.  And the historic district has a bit of a small town feel -- it's not busy and hectic like big cities.

Also, for the "active stuff" you could spend a day on Tybee Island.  We went there for part of a day and rented bikes and cruised around, and also climbed to the top of the lighthouse.

  • My mom and I did a girls trip to Charleston last summer and had a blast. I think we spent half the time there and the other half in Isle of Palm.
  • My top two were also Savannah and Austin.

Some other ideas, Charlottesville, VA-- pretty, nice history, pleasant town center, some nice wineries (to the extent that would be of interest);  Newport, RI; Portsmouth, NH; Annapolis, MD.
