does anyone else have trouble keeping craft space organized?
I get so little time to craft that I often leave to fetch a baby waking up....with my craft space a mess. Then when I get a chance to return, I think about only having an hour, so I push the mess aside and work on another project. It's so frustrating to always have that space a mess, but it's more frustrating to not have the motivation to organize it. It seriously is the messiest place in my house right now. And all I can think of doing is starting my next project. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Constantly. It ends up being so much more than just a craft room - I need to stop bringing other crap in here!
Luckily, my husband has these midnight cleaning spells and will clean my craft room up for me if it needs it.

I find the key to keep my craft space organized is to not craft. I have been terrible this year (last 6 months really) so far so it has been really clean. I need to get to work on making birthday cards and annerversery cards for the year.
I find my biggest help has been buying storage for things. I got a ribbon dispenser/storage stand and embossing gun stand for Christmas so those have helped me get things picked up. Much easier to stay clean when things have a place that is easy to get access to. I also keep everything in bins on book shelves so it is easy to access but also easy to put away.
Mine too. Also, my rulers are out of control- I need to do a peg board, but can't until our sofa sleeper gets delivered next Thursday and the final room layout is set.
Stand up for something you believe in.
My peg board seriously solved a lot of issues for me! I have baskets for thread, which used to be a big mess, and then my rulers are all hung up, which used to take up more flat space on my desk than anything. It's much better in my new space.
Other than that, I rely on clear plastic bins for now. I find that if everything HAS a place, it's easier for it to find it's way back to the place it belongs. The one thing I really struggle with right now is where to keep scrap fabrics, but I guess I'll get it one of these days.

I have problems keeping my stuff in my studio and not spreading it all over the house. lol
I was doing really well until we had company for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago,
and my studio became the indoor garage. It made it difficult to get to my stuff, so searching for what I needed for particular projects has turned the room into an episode (or 10) of Hoarders, and everything has taken over the rest of the house. It used to be a great work space. *sigh*
I have had some neck and back problems in the past two years (and fear-lol) that have kept me from a full on attack of the room, but as soon as we finish our current sewing job (we work at my partner's house), I will attack the room. I have a plan of attack forming.
I have found that I do best if I organize things in a way that fits with the way that I work, not what looks best or makes sense to someone else. If I find myself continually looking for something in the wrong spot, that becomes the storage spot for it.
Some stuff I store by what it is (I have a bin of fabric paint that I have to search through to find the color I need, but I find that kind of fun), but other things (like my trims) need to be divided by type and color, etc.. As long as it is labeled, and keep things shelved in general categories, I don't need see through containers.
Several years ago we were making competition tutus and costumes for four girls. We used large zippered plastic storage bags that I got from ikea, put a name on each bag and kept everything relating to each person in their bag. At the end of the day, it made clean up easy and really kept us organized for the three months of work.
I learned a lot from that experience. I usually keep empty bins/baskets in the room that I throw everything from my current projects into, to keep them from becoming intermingled or lost. I don't mind leaving a work in progress out, but every now and then I want the room to look clean or to work on another project, so being able to throw everything into a bin makes it easy.
My partner and I have different mess tolerance levels, and her neatnik ways drive me crazy. She keeps tidying up without realizing it, and we keep 'losing' things that we need. We waste more time looking for things that we need but she has put away but didn't remember putting away, and I don't have a clue where to look for it. She has nothing labeled, and she tends to fold things up and tuck them into a convenient bin or bag. I may not be the neatest person, but I know exactly where to look for pink/gold/blue/whatever trim, with or without sequins and with or without stretch, or where to find the pattern that I am working with. ;p
