Engagement Party gift suggestions

We are going to one of T's friends engagement party tomorrow. This is one of his best friends (they grew up together, he was the bm in our wedding). What kind of gift would you give? I was thinking $ (what's an acceptable amount???) and something else like a bottle of booze or maybe a nice picture frame. I have only been to one other engagement party in my life and they already had a registry so I just bought off of that. TIA :)

Re: Engagement Party gift suggestions

  • We almost always give cash but less cash then we would give at a wedding.
  • The last engagement party we went to we gave a really nice bottle of champagne and pair of flutes... I put it in a basket with some other odds and ends that went with it like chocolates and stuff.

I like this idea. In the past I've sent a vase or frame from Macy's. They always have sales. You can find something nice without spending a lot.

  • ITA with MrsNewkirk and Nikos...I just sent my cousin a nice vase it wasn't super expensive and it was very pretty. Sometimes I give cash like $75 or something? Nothing crazy because you know there's gonna be a shower THEN wedding :)

  • I agree with pp's.  A nice vase, picture frame is always good. Cash too, as im sure they are putting it aside for the wedding day.

Some things I got at mine:

    Champagne flutes (for the wedding)

    Cake/Knife server

    Money

    Cake topper

    Frames

  • One of my favorite engagement gifts was a Kate Spade cake/knife server set and I have since given them to other couples (if I knew that would be their style).
  • we always do cash for engagement party gifts as I figure most people contribute some money towards their wedding. Every little bit helps!

  • I agree with cash, and then a nice gift basket to go along with it.

  • we always do cash.  generally half of what we would give for the wedding.  fwiw, we didnt do an e-party.  but as far as the flutes goes, my friend who did have an e-party- received 5 pairs of flutes!  it's obviously a good idea, but maybe a lot of people do it?

  • Thanks for all of the great suggestions, ladies. I went to TJMaxx last night with intentions of buying something to go along with $ but while standing on line with what I was getting them, I opted against making the purchase. I put the extra $ in the card lol. Doesn't matter now since the snow effed me and we are staying home :(
