Taos Recommendations

DH and I are thinking of a long weekend in Taos in early March.  My thought was to find a small condo on vrbo and ski one day and snow shoe another.  We live within driving distance so would be a road trip and we'd take all our gear.

Any thoughts/recommendations on what else to do while we're there?  or where to eat?

Re: Taos Recommendations

  • Oh, I am going there tomorrow for a week long skiing vacation.  We rented out house off VRBO I think.  Anyway if you still need recs when I get back, you can PM me!

  • Go to the hot springs at Ojo Caliente. I think they give you a discount if you have a lift ticket (not sure on details, look at their webpage.)

The private pool with the fireplace is really fun. And would feel great after a day on the slopes.  Their restaurant is really quite good too.

It's probably a 40 min drive from Taos proper, but worth your time imo.

  • For food, I like Taos Pizza Out Back and Orlando's. Neither are too pricey and fairly casual. You might also want to make a stop in Arroyo Seco (it's on the way to the ski valley). It's a quirky little town that's fun to wander around in. I also like the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge but that's not going to take up too much of your time. There are also some pretty good wineries a few miles outside of Taos heading toward Santa Fe. Parking in Taos Plaza is fairly lousy so be prepared or try to rent a place with parking near the plaza. Have fun!
