Re: What to buy in Holland?
doobie
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

A prostitute.
I don't get this question. I mean, buy what you like...
I would pass on the wooden shoes. I was floored when I saw how much. they were. I don't remember the exact cost, but I want to say they were in the 30 euro range for the "two year old niece"size. I think it was in the 60 euro range for adults?
Get little wooden shoes to display in your house. Much cheaper and a cute souvenir.
Delft china is a something I think of when I think about Holland. They have so many different things you can get, mugs, tiles, tiles you can use as a potholder, vases, ornaments, etc.
Also, spring is the wrong time to buy tulip bulbs. You can order them in the spring, but a good seller will not ship them until the fall - which is when you should plant them. Here is a quote from the Amsterdam Tulip Museum at http://www.amsterdamtulipmuseum.com/:
Attention: Caveat Emptor! Buyer Beware! When visiting Amsterdam in the months of February to mid-July you will see many places selling tulip bulbs in small packages that you can carry home. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere we would advise you not to purchase them. If you buy these bulbs and plant them when you return home they may send up some green but will probably not flower. After that they will probably only give you just green leaves the following Spring. If you store them till the Fall they will probably just dry up in the bag. These bulbs are either leftover from the previous years crop or they are harvested reverse season from places like Chile.
To have bulbs bloom in the Spring you MUST plant them the previous Fall before the onset of Winter. There is no way around this fact. You will find the Amsterdam Tulip Museum only offers bulbs for Fall planting(tulips, daffodils, crocus) in the months of August through December.

Second pp on Delft pottery. I toured their factory and enjoyed their gift shop for unique gifts for friends. I bought mini wooden shoes in a cheesy magnet, not real shoes (I was running out of luggage space). I also bought some greetings card in Dutch (had a friend translate them for me).
If you need anything for a bicycle, Holland will have it.
