Thinking of going to FL in October! If you've been...
1. Where did you go? What city/area?
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it?
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area?
Thanks!
Re: Anyone been to Florida??
I thought everyone in the world had been to FL?!?!
Favorite: Keys
Least favorite: everywhere else
Ha, I'm 25 and just went for my first time this past Oct
1. Where did you go? What city/area? We flew into Ft Lauderdale and drove up to Palm Beach Area (rented a car)
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? Loved it. We were there Thu-Sun and had a wedding, but otherwise we went to the beach (although it was kind of "cold"/high 70s and there weren't many others out). We had a ton of good food and didn't really do much other than food, beach and drink. Although we did do an airboat fan tour that was really cool.
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? NA

I've lived her for 6.5 years and have never looked back to Ohio:)
October is a beautiful time to visit, so I'm sure you'll enjoy anywhere you go.
If you like history, try St. Augustine. If you want theme parks, try Orlando or Tampa. If you like white sandy beaches, try anywhere on the west coast from Marco Island to Pensacola (I love Clearwater and Siesta Key). If you want to snorkel, go to the Keys. If you want to swim with manatees, stay around the Tampa area and drive to Crystal River.
My co-worker who has lived her whole life hates West Palm and almost the entire east coast. She says it's too touristy and congested. I hated Miami and South Beach and will NEVER go back.
probably 6 trillion times. all over the wpb/psl/stewart/ft pierce area and beyond. my ils hav a winter house there, one of my best friends lives there and dh's parents have about 400 friends that live there.
i dont really care for it at all really. except for disney. i love disney
1. Where did you go? What city/area? - I've been to the Keys, Orlando numerous times, St. Petersburg area, Daytona Beach and Sarasota area.
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? - I've always had a good time, it depends on what you want to do there I guess.
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? - I can't say that I have a fave. Orlando is fun if you like the whole Disney and amusement park thing. The keys are just breathtaking. I think my fave was the gulf coast though. We went to Long Boat Key which is near Sarasota and had such a great time.
Thinking of going to FL in October! If you've been...
1. Where did you go? What city/area? I didn't grow up here, but I live here now and LOVE it compared to the northeast. I live in the Orlando area now which is fun because you've got all the themeparks, downtown Orlando, the Amway Center, and the beaches are about 45 minutes to an hour away. Also taking cruises out of Port Canaveral or Tampa are convenient.
I have also visited West Palm Beach, Miami, and Key West. Had a great time in all 3 of those locations for different reasons. WPB was more about the food and beaches, Miami was more about the shopping, beaches and clubbing, and Key West was the most like a vacation destination to me, but the beaches aren't great.
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? I moved here and LOVE it!
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? My favorite areas are down in South Florida with the nicer beaches and blue water.

Have been to Orlando, Tampa and Clearwater Beach. Love Clearwater Beach.
1. Where did you go? What city/area? Fort Myers Area(Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Naples), St Pete Beach, Everglades
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? LOVE IT, someday we will live in this area!!! Tons of stuff to do, good eats, fantastic weather.
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? We prfer the Gulf-Side. Ft Lauderdale was my least favorite.
1. Where did you go? What city/area? I've been to Miami (South Beach and Miami Beach), Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Boca Raton, Palm Beach/West Palm Beach, Stuart, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie.
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? I totally love South Beach/Miami Beach, as well as Palm Beach/West Palm Beach.
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? South Florida is my fave.
1. Where did you go? What city/area? Destin/Ft. Walton, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Sarasota, Panama City and Tallahasse
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? Loved all of the beach towns, Miami is ok, Tampa was fun for the purpose we were there for (Outback Bowl) but not overly fabulous. Gainesville was not very nice, not a real fan of Jacksonville and Orlando is ok.
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? The Gulf Coast (Destin especially) is my favorite area.

Orlando
Sanibel/Captiva
Anna Maria Island
Key West
West Palm
Miami
I prefer the beachy laid back areas of Sanibel and Anna Maria. But I have kids now and prefer a low key beach vacation where you can walk to shops and restaurants. I go to Anna Maria every year. They have a free trolley that runs aroudn the island, nice restaurants, some cute shops and a nice beach but it is very quiet at night.
If I was looking for a more exciting time I would go to Miami or Key West.
07bride, where do you live, I am figuring far from FL from the way the ? was posed.1.
1. Where did you go? St. Petersburg/Clearwater/Tampa (never saw the city though), Miami Beach, Key West, Ft. Lauderdale, Daytona, Orlando.
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it? Love Orlando but that is mostly for Disney. Loved Miami Beach but now am too old for it especially with kids. Key West is very nice but in my early 20s I was too uptight for it, I went over Halloween/Fantasy Fest and it is like Marti Gras and too much nakedness for my taste, I don't vacation without my kids but if I were to go there as just a couple I would know what to expect now and would find more humor in the Key West scene. St. Petersburg and Clearwater are nice. Daytona IMHO is total trash, gorgeous beaches but I would NEVER go back.
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area? See above. If you are in your 20s I would do Miami if you want a beach or Orlando for Disney, if you are in 30s or 40s I would do Clearwater/St. Petes or Orlando.
Thanks!
I like Sarasota (Longboat Key specifically) and Palm Beach area. The Keys are fun too- Islamorada was nice. There are a lot of nice towns in FL.
Wasn't a huge fan of South Beach.
I grew up in Florida so I'll respond:
1. I grew up in Sarasota and lived in Fort Myers/Estero/Bonita Springs for seven years. I've been to pretty much every other part of Florida too.
2. I love it because it is home. I have family and many wonderful friends who still live there. I enjoy living in the Midwest and I'd be very happy never to live in Florida again. But visiting makes me appreciate how lucky I am to call it home.
3. I love Sarasota and its barrier islands, old Tampa and old St. Pete. There are parts of Bonita Springs/Naples I enjoy (5th Ave., Barefoot Beach, the pier) too. I dislike Fort Lauderdale and Miami, the Disney area of Orlando and Cocoa Beach.
I agree. I lived in FL for 45 years, 20 in the panhandle and 25 in Cape Canaveral. I love the beaches along the Gulf Coast in the panhandle. Living there you like non-tourist places with great beaches. I used to go to St George Island. This is away from tourist stuff so you go just to enjoy the beach. It has white sandy beaches that sqeek when you walk on it.St Augustine has wonderful history.Central to So FL along the east coast for the most part is too touristy for my taste. If I went to any it would be the West Palm/Palm beach area and go to worth avenue shopping (or window shopping).
Marco, Sanibel area is nice and Ft Myers is iteresting - especially the Edison museum. The keys do not have beaches for the most part.
I do not recommend Cocoa Beach or Daytona area. The best beach in that area is Canaveral National Seashore (New Smyrna Beach) area if you are in central florida for other things or St Augustine for the history.
1. Where did you go? What city/area?
Have lived in Daytona Beach area all my life (less college in TN). Have been all over the state.
2. Did you love it? hate it? neutral about it?
I enjoy it here, small town on the beach, short hour drive to Orlando (east), St. Augustine (north) or Cocoa/Melbourne (south).
3. If you've been to more than one part of FL, do you have a favorite? least favorite area?
If I recommend a place in FL to vacation, it's definitely not Daytona. (sorry - used to be maybe 40 years ago long before I was even born). We love the west coast waters - Clearwater/St Pete area with day trips to Siesta Key. Destin is also beautiful. Like others, not a big fan of the nightlife scene down south any longer.
It's a big state, so it's hard to answer a vague question like this.
I grew up in Ft Laud., so I've been pretty much everywhere. What exactly are you looking for? You can get Deep South gulf coast or you can go Little Havana in Miami. There's a lot in between.
FTR, I moved as soon as I went to college and haven't regretted leaving one bit. I love visiting my family, but I can only take S FL for a couple days before I want to go postal on everyone.
I think the Keys are my favorite part. It's quirky old Florida.
I've been to Clearwater twice and absolutely loved it! We flew into Tampa and also spent some time in Tampa at Busch Gardens (I was young when we went). Clearwater is just such a cute town with really nice beaches. I'd highly recommend it (it's on the Gulf side).
Also been to the Ft. Lauderdale area to visit relatives (young again, so I don't remember this as well).
And then of course Orlando twice to go to Disney. It's fun even for adults, but it's not a "lay around the beach and relax" type of vacation. H and I went a few years back and had a blast but we went in winter and were looking for more of an "active" vacation anyhow.
Hands down, I'd vote for Clearwater.
