Can you help me pick which Greece itinerary (cruise)?

We're tossing around the idea of going to Italy (non-cruise) or Greece (cruise) for 2013. We have a pretty good Italy itinerary, but are trying to wrap our heads around a Greece itinerary.

Cruise #1 (Celebrity Equinox, 11-nt): Rome, Santorini, Istanbul, Ephesus, Athens, Mykonos, Naples

Cruise #2 (RCL Navigator, 7-nt): Rome, Messina Sicily, Ephesus, Athens, Chania

fwiw, the price is about $1k difference b/w the 2 cruise + airfare (using 2012 $)...

Re: Can you help me pick which Greece itinerary (cruise)?

  • I would do the longer one! Not because the destinations are different, but just because it's a longer trip!

  • Cruise #1 for a a few reasons.  First off I love Celebrity more than RCL in general from everything from food, staterooms, ambiance to name a few.  I also like that that cruise includes Santorini which I think is wonderful.

    Is Mykonos worth visiting?

  • I liked Mykonos but I'd rather try other islands.  There are some fun beaches and great food/shopping.  Worth visiting on the cruise since it's with other ports.  I'd rent a car and explore the beaches for a day at the port, then end the day shopping (the ships dock right at the downtown main shopping).  We didn't cruise but we strolled by the ships.

  • #1 so you get to experience Santorini.  We didn't cruise in Greece, we traveled the islands.  Santorini was by far the most amazing place I've ever been.  It's just breathtaking.  I'd go back in a heartbeat.  I guess I'm not sure how long you'd actually get to experience the island, but just to see the cliffs, cave houses and the caldera is worth it, IMO!
