Staging (sort of) question

We're getting the professional pics of our condo taken this week.  I know this might seem like a stupid question- but should I clean out our fireplace?  It's filled with ash from several past fires.  I'll eventually clean it out before we start showing it- but should I do before pictures?

I have about 5,000,000 things to do before these pictures are taken- while also watching my kids- so I don't want to have to do a single freakin' thing I don't have to. ;)

Re: Staging (sort of) question

  • Yes - you should clean everything you possible can. If the photos don't look good online, a lot of people won't even put it on their list of homes to visit in person. I know it's a pain and it takes a lot of time, but doing as much as you can to clean, de-clutter and de-personalize your home will pay off. It also depends on the status of the homes you are competing with. If other listings look pristine in photos, it will make your house look worse if it not also in pristine condition.

  • Will the ashes be obvious in the photos?

If yes, then clean. If no, then just make sure to do it before your first showing.

Now is the time to enlist the housekeeping help of your DH!

  • Okay, thanks..... somehow I knew you'd say to clean it out! ;)

Would you remove personal photos, too?

  • I would clean it out and remove personal photos.  I think photos can be distracting, plus I don't necessarily want strangers knowing what I look like and where I live, KWIM?  If you can not use the fireplace, it's one less thing to do when you move.  Good luck with the sale!
