I had an interview last week for a position I'm very interested in. It was the third interview, and I met with all the higher ups (president, etc.). I haven't heard anything.
Meanwhile, I'm in the process of getting an offer for a job I don't really want (the job is fine, but the hours fluctuate a lot and it's just not a good situation for our family, both financially and in terms of childcare).
I want to f/u on job #1. First, is a call more appropriate, or should I email? Second, is it fine to mention I have another offer on the table? I don't want to sound pushy, but I do need all the information before making a decision (I'm pretty sure I won't be taking #2 but there is still a chance, since I do like the organization, and it would be a foot in the door).
(FWIW I did already send TY notes after the interviews.)
Re: Following up on an interview
This gets asked a lot, and there's a system you can follow.
You can call #1 (I'd call over e-mailing, it shows more initiative for some reason). Tell them that you recently received an offer from #2, but you *really* want to work for #1 (and throw out a few examples of why: good fit, you can be an asset, etc.). Ask when they plan to make a decision.
GL!
