I don't really know what to do other than say: "My feeling were hurt. Again. I know it just doesn't occur to you that you need to do something thoughtful on special occasions, but you do. Do you want me to remind you ahead of time? How do we fix this?"

It's your birthday and you absolutely deserve something special today. Like PP's said, maybe he'll bring something home.My dad is like that. He'll buy my mom something just to buy it, but it's rarely a thoughtful gift.
