Castle Rock/Monument Nesties?

Hello!  I need some living advice and a little nestie help.  I just found out yesterday that I am being transferred to the Springs...on wednesday, excellent notice.  Our lease is up March 1st so we started looking for places to live.  I am thinking monument because DH will continue to work in the tech center at least for now, he does want to look for something new.  My new work is off of circle drive so it will be a long commute for both of us.  He is leaning towards the castle rock area because he feels the job market is better in denver when he does look for something new, he works in production management.  I guess I am leaning toward monument because it cuts down my drive time, completely selfish.  Any recommendations on one over the other?  Neighborhoods?  Opinion on just saying screw it, the job market is great in the springs just move here, haha.  We are initially hoping to rent and feel things out a bit...  Mostly, I am just reaching out because I have lived in Denver a decade now and I am sad to leave, hoping to make some new friends!

Re: Castle Rock/Monument Nesties?

  • I don't know Monument at all, but I really like CR.  I love the little down town, the community vibe here, the annual star lighting....I like it all.  Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

  • I commuted from the Springs to Denver for two years before having kids and becoming a SAHM. It really is not that bad. I got a bus pass and rode the FREX both ways, it stops in Monument, Castle Rock and Araphaoe Road before it hits Broadway. I noticed some riders would leave their car at Arapahoe Road and drive from there. We looked at moving to Castle Rock, but didnt really like the layout of the town as far as conveniences go, monument isnt much better. North Colorado Springs is nice and really only about 10 min from Monument.

  • We have lived in Castle Rock for 3 years now... Moved here out of necessity- I commute to school in Denver (I-225/I-70), DH commutes to Colorado Springs (waayyy south C. springs, Fort Carson for a construction project x5 years).

At first I had no feelings about it, but I've grown to absolutely love it. We live in a condo off Founder's Parkway. We hope to sell it and buy a new house in a few years, and we want our forever home to be here in Castle Rock.

I think the city is beautiful, charming, and SAFE. I've never felt so safe. The only downside I see in raising a family here is a lack of diversity. It is a lot of middle to upper class OLDER white people. There's not much of a social life/things to do for younger couples, which at first annoyed me.... but there's plenty to do just a little north or south.

We love that we are 10 minutes from the Tech Center/Park Meadows area, 30 minutes from Avs/Broncos games, and above all close to family which we have sprinkled all over Colorado Springs and Denver.

Definitely check out the areas off Founder's Parkway... I've got Target/Walmart/King Soopers, an elementary school, a high school, chipotle, and beloved I-25 all within 1 mile of my house.

We like C Rock over North C Springs (which is our other consideration for our "forever" home) because of the safety factor and convenience to Denver.

And although some days the commutes want to make me stab my eyes out, you get used it... and learn to avoid certain times/directions and to add X amount of time if there is a snowflake on the road. Big Smile

     Good luck!

  • If I had to chose between the two with all things being equal, I would definitely take Castle Rock since there is more to the town and it's closer to Denver.  But, considering your commute to the Springs and the fact that you are the only one working?  I'd go with Monument.  I hate commuting so I would want my drive to be shorter.
