I have terrible rental luck
Another apartment I liked is showing up as rented. The rental market in this city is way too tough, and I'm so tired of being disappointed.
I just sent an email to someone renting a place in my current building, and I really, really, really hope I get it. Not just because I think I would like the apartment but because I'm tired of the let-down of hearing that people would rather rent to someone else.

Maybe offering a little more than the stated monthly rent will sway them?

If anyone understands it's me! Haha, 2 years with the IL's because of our rental situation hasn't always been roses and sunshine.
I hope your building has some good news for you.
I got it! They just bought the place as a rental for now and in the future they'll give it to their son (who's currently only 7!) so I think she appreciated that I already knew the place. We met yesterday before the open house, and she called me back in the evening. She came by today, and I already have the keys!
On the downside, it doesn't have a refrigerator (or a washing machine)! So I can't really start moving until I buy one and get it put in. Kind of a pain, but oh well. It will be convenient, and I can even have XH come by and feed the cats when I'm out of town.
...And on days like today when there's a foot of snow to trudge through, I will be very happy not to give up my underground access to the supermarket next door!
That's great! Sounds like a really good place for you and you won't even have to hire a moving truck!
