  • It's been a while since I went. I went to Kaua'i after my senior year in high school which I loved. It was nice because it was more outdoorsy than the other time I went. We spent the entire time hiking and kayaking and hanging out on the beach. There wasn't much shopping though. We took a boat out on the Napali coast and snorkeled at the Northern tip. And... there were a lot of chickens running around. lol

My mom lived on the big island in a city called Mountain View for a few years so I visited there a couple times. I think it was more of a traditional Hawaiian vacation. There were a lot of shopping spots, you can hike the volcano, we visited these really cool hot springs.

  • We actually engaged in Maui :). It was awesome and H and I are planning on going back to HI for our HM (if we ever get around to taking one). What we really liked about Maui was that there was a little bit of everything. You could go shopping or just hang out around town, or you could be lazy on the beach, or you can do outdoorsy type things, there are lots of restaurants to choose from.

If we end up going back we are consider Kauai or the big island.

  • Thanks ladies!!!

H and I were considering Jamaica first for our HM but H hasn't traveled a lot so I wanted to provide something that would have a lot of different things to do and my sister suggested Hawaii.

H actually had input on something, which was strange so Hawaii it is.

I like the options of being able to do the beach, shopping, hanging out, outdoorsy stuff too, I just think it would make the trip more fun for us.

Now to decide which island to go to. Maui, hmmmm

  • I went when I was 9, so I'm not much help, but my friend HM'd there last year and like everyone else I've heard, LOVED Maui. Definitely go there!

  • I've been to HI twice, and we island hopped both times. First time was in high school with my family. We went to Maui and Kauai. I loved both and would have gone back to Kauai with my husband for our honeymoon but we decided on Maui and Oahu so we could spend A day in Pearl Harbor. So anyway I know the most about Maui and I can't recommend it more highly! It's the perfect place for a honeymoon. Our room had an amazing view of the ocean, we get to watch the sun rise from the top of a volcano and ride bikes down it, we drove the road to Hana (insane but amazing!) we ate the most amazing meals I've ever had (I'll give you a list of restaurants if you pick Maui) we snorkeled almost everyday and saw sea turtles, and we golfed.  If Pearl Harbor is a point of interest for you I would recommend staying on the north shore and just driving down to PH and Waikiki for a day. Waikiki is a CITY! There are chain restaurants, every store you can think of and a bazillion people. It was fine for us be cause we only stayed there for 2 nights and spent one day at PH and one at the spa but if we were there longer we wouldn't have liked it - it just doesn't feel like vacation to us.

    Haha, I think that's EVERYTHING :)

  • We went to O'ahu for our honey moon. I love it! We did all the tourist attractions pearl harbor, snorkeling in Haunama Bay etc. We stayed in Waikiki and a block from the beach. We were right in the middle of everything. Tons of restaurants and shops. We had a blast! I want to go back. I hear Maui is more lush and has better beaches. So we might go to Maui.
  • H and I have been to Maui twice and love it!! We got engaged at the beach on Wailea in October. We stayed at the Grand Waliea that trip and loved it! The water slides at the resort are awesome. The trip before we stayed in Kanapali and really liked that too, the resort was less expensive too. There's lots to do and I definitely recommend renting a car. It's very easy to drive around there and you really need a car to see much outside of the hotel areas

  • Thanks for all the information.

Is this a trip I can plan without a TA and just use Expedia or Travelocity?

We would love to see PH and climb a volcano and do the beach and eat good food.  Yall are making me super excited about this!!

  • you should be fine booking your trip without a TA - we used one because it's my mom's friend and she wanted to help us book our honeymoon but otherwise we wouldnt have. she booked our hotels, rental car, inter-island flight and shuttles from and to the airport but we booked our flights to and from and all of our excursions and dinner reservations.

im excited for you! keep us posted as you start booking your trip!
