Questions about Switzerland

I am thinking about going to Geneva. What are some cool small towns that I should visit from there. I want to go to Annecy France. Any other ideas?

TIA

Re: Questions about Switzerland

  • Can I ask why you're thinking Geneva? What time of year were you thinking of going? That entirely impacts my answers. is a really good trip from Geneva definitely go there. Montreux is a nice trip as well. I am out at the moment but have other day trip options from Geneva on my blog. Do you have the address?
  • I might go for Easter. I want to visit France but it is cheaper to fly to Geneva and go from there.

I dont have your blog addy.

  • I'll post it in the FB group in three seconds.
  • If you are there around Easterish time look into the local Caves Ouvertes. All of the cantons and a lot of little communes with vineyards have open cellars for one weekend at around that time. You either pay nothing (Geneva) or 10 or 15 francs (Vaud and a couple of the communes). You get a glass and can go to all of the wineries and taste to your heart's content.
  • Could you send me a PM with the blog. I am not on the FB group.

  • I can't pm from my iPhone and we are up at the beach in Penang so I won't have access to my computer for several days. I'll post it here for a half hour or so. Can you let me know when you see it so that I can edit it out? I am worried about it being brought up in search engines.
  • We usually leave Switzerland at Easter, so I'm not going to be much help.

Annency is beautiful, go there for sure. Montreux is nice, as is Lausanne. Neuch?tel is cute too :D

  • I liked Montreux. The little castle was fun to explore. Only other place we went to in the French part was Geneva and I was so unimpressed. Place was so dead on a Sunday even Zurich was more lively on a Sunday.

Now Nesting from Chicago, IL My nail blog:
  • We spent a week in Switzerland a few years ago and didn't spend a moment in Geneva. We rented an apartment in Glion (in the middle of absolutely nowhere, you needed to take a funicular from Montreaux and then walk a couple miles, not particularly my thing but my DH loved it). We really, really liked Montreaux (Chillon Castle is really great).

We did day trips to Vevey, Roches de Naye, Sion and Gruyere. We had a fantastic time in Switzerland in general but Montreaux (the walk along Lake Geneva to Chillon is beautiful) and Gruyere (just a really lovely little town. Touristy but cute and we had super yummy fondue). We really enjoyed taking the train up to Roches de Naye (sorry if I'm spelling it wrong) too - we have pictures of ourselves hiking around in knee-high snow and t-shirts, the sun was so strong that we were totally warm even in the snow. We took the train everywhere, it was really easy to get around.

    Have fun!
