Help wanted: Travel tips for Punta Cana
We are heading to the DR for a few days in February. Neither of us have been to an all inclusive,
or even to the Caribbean. What would you
bring with you, or what do we need to know before going?
Since it is only a few days, I am hoping to not check
luggage. However, I don?t know how to do
that and still pack the appropriate amount of sunscreen and bug spray.
Any and all hints are
appreciated.TIA
Re: Help wanted: Travel tips for Punta Cana
I would definitely bring sunscreen, aloe and any medications you think you might possibly need (pain reliever, Immodium, etc.). They will be 10x more expensive if you have to buy them at the resort. If you don't want to check bags, you can buy travel bottles at Target or a drugstore and fill multiple 3oz bottles with sunscreen. I don't remember ever needing bug spray when we were there...
Some resorts have dress codes for dinner restaurants. I would make sure you have a nice pair of sandals (not flip flops) or another pair of nicer shoes, and that your H/SO has a pair of long pants and closed-toe shoes just in case.
My H and I took a small travel sized bottle of OFF bug spray to Costa Rica (where mosquitoes are terrible!) with us and it lasted a whole week for both of us. A little goes a long way. We found it in the camping/outdoor section at Walmart.
For sunblock, we put some in a few 3.4 ounce travel bottles so we were careful not to go over the carry-on limit, and it took up less space in our luggage.
For more tips on packing light, see the post below.

I don't have suggestions specific to DR, but going to an AI you don't need much. Be sure to pack a couple of nice outfits for dinners and you may want to check into what the dress codes for the restaurants are.
ETA: Oops. I basically just repeated what Sunshine said. She beat me to it.
Yah, you don't need much. Bring a couple of swim suits, tons of sunscreen and a couple of nice outfits. You'll want a few cover ups to wear to the lunch buffet as they usually don't let you go in your bathing suit.
I wore flip flops the whole time even with nice outfits to save room.
Just remember the sunscreen! Even the PC airport is outside. You get off your plane and have to walk a good distance outside to get in the "building(airport)" which is more like a large grass hut.
We brought too much including bug spray which I never needed.
Have fun!!!!
I just PM'd you our standard packing list for AI Caribbean travel. Hope it helps.
As for the sunscreen you'll notice it is in my list but only enough for a day or two. Your better off saving yourself aggrivation and space by just spending the money and buying it there.

They sell 3.3 oz sunscreen bottles. If your husband is anything like mine he doesn't exactly fill up an entire quart sized ziploc and he can put at least one tube in there. If not three
If you each bring one you should be more than covered. I have never managed to use more than 3 oz of sunscreen on a trip--even trips lasting several weeks. And I wear it daily.
Most resorts spray aggressively for bugs so I don't think you'd need that much bug spray.
Thank you all for the help. I apparently don't know how to check PM....I clicked the link to the left and there was nothing there.
Thanks again
Here's the list.
