Poll: Dishwashers

After the "Great Flood" (when our dishwasher hose burst and did $40k+ in damage to our house, we got a new dishwasher.  It was supposed to be top of the line and was expensive, but it is a piece of crap.  DH wants to go to a junkyard and get an old dishwasher that will actually wash and dry.  So I'm curious if it is just our dishwasher or all newer dishwashers.

[Poll]

If you have a newer dishwasher and it cleans and drys well, what brand and model is it?

Re: Poll: Dishwashers

  • We have a Bosch. It is about a year old

It does a great job cleaning and drying. The only thing it doesn't really dry are plastic items but those rarely dry in any dishwasher but dry quickly once we put them on the drying rack.

    Love the sanitize setting

  • Ours cleans and dries well and it's a Whirlpool Gold. I had a friend buy a similar model a year or so later and she really likes hers as well. I think hers is maybe 1.5 old and ours is 3 years old. I don't know think they still make the exact same model that I bought but we both have a stainless one with the buttons on the top instead of on the front.

I will say that the drying is better when we have it loaded with JetDry.

Which kind did you end up getting?

  • We love ours.  Came with the house.  Cleans awesome and whisper quiet.  It's a Bosch.  It doesn't do a great job of drying plastic (tupperware) but I think that's pretty normal and isn't a huge deal for us.

Not all Bosch's are created equal though.  In our vacation condo in Florida they also had one and it was so freaking loud.  I was commenting to DH about it and we were saying we never realized how nice/important it was to us to have one that's not loud.

This. I feel like how clean and dry my dishes are changes with the what comboniation of detergent and JetDry I use. Its so temperamental. It's a GE- I'll have to update when I go home for lunch.

We actually just bought a new dishwasher ( it came with a new kitchen set we got for a great deal from home foreclosure sale) and its in the garage waiting to be installed so I can't recommend it just yet. The previous owner raved about so I'm excited about getting it installed.

  • we have a Bosch, just bought last summer. It doesn't do a great job drying right now, BUT that is b/c the vent is to the side and not the front of the dishwasher. Well, there is a big ole plank of wood right there - eventually DH is going to fix it. Until then he keeps getting annoyed. The other part that is annoying is that since it's off to the side, that is also the only place we can put taller items like cookie sheets/cutting boards (yes, we're that lazy) but then they cover the vent.

  • Ours does a great job at both.  We, too, have a Bosch.  I am not sure what the model is, it came with our house.  I like it because the controls are hidden (great with the kids) and it has a ton of different settings based on what we need (auto wash, delay, quick wash, sanitize, etc).  It is also really quiet.

  • This is interesting.  We considered a Bosch, but the salesman said we would have to open the door midway through for everything to dry.

We have a GE, but maybe we are not realistic about plastic drying.  Our bottles and bottles parts are always dripping wet.  Regular dishes only dry if we keep it filled with JetDry.  It is super quiet though.

ETA: I think this is the one we have, but our control panel is different.

That is bizarre!  We have never had to open it midway through.  Are the new ones vented differently?

  • We have a GE that came with out house about 3 years ago, new and it is terrible.  It doesn't wash all that well, it doesn't dry all that well, it is REALLY loud, and it runs for-ev-er.  It takes it like 1.5-2 hours to run through a normal cycle.  We hate it.  The only reason we haven't replaced it is because we are planning on redoing the kitchen in the next few years.

Us either, but again, plastic doesn't dry.   When it's done (we run it after dinner) we do open it and let it air out (it's SO hot and steamy in there after drying) and then unload the next morning.

  • Mine is about 7 yrs old. I noticed that it wasn't washing well, but I wasn't rinsing well before. I pretty much wash my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher now. I just started noticing build up.
  • We have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner III and its great.  The buttons are on the top of the door (so you don't see them (I wanted them not showing so the kids wouldn't be able to just push them.  Its super quiet and does a great job.
  • We have a Whirlpool. Got is 2.5 years ago when we moved in. It was about $400. I love it. Doesn't dry plastics totally, and I always crack the door to let it air out after I run a load, but that's no big deal to me. I just hang bottles/sippy cups on the counter drying rack.
