I will never eat at McDonalds again...

UGH, I feel like crap, lol. Tonight I tried to make something for supper that i'd seen on eatingwell.com, and it turned out less than good. I mean, it wasn't inedible, but it was pretty blah at the same time. So out of sheer hunger and desperation, DH and I decided we'd just go out to McDonalds tonight and treat ourselves. After all, I haven't had it in a month now, and I haven't had a real splurge day in the 3 weeks of my healthy eating habits, so I figured, why not?

Well, i'll tell you why not! I ate the typical Big Mac with fries that I used to love, and I am as sick as a DOG! Within 5 minutes, my stomach started feeling really queasy, and I started dry heaving for the following 20 minutes. Thankfully I didn't actually lose my stomach (ugh, I hate vomiting more than ANYTHING else), but this was bad enough. I'm still having little spells every once in awhile where I start gagging. I know it wasn't food poisoning or anything, this was my body straight up rejecting this nasty processed fake garbage that masquerades as food, lol. As soon as I ate this stuff, I started to have all the problems I was having before starting to eat clean: aching joints, feeling sluggish, not feeling quite right in my stomach, having coughing fits... I'm pretty sure this is gonna be the last time I eat at McDonalds, seriously. I'll take my clean eating lifestyle over feeling like this anyday!

Re: I will never eat at McDonalds again...

  • yikes! good for u for cutting it out for good. i haven't eaten at McD's in years. i refuse to go there. only thing i've had within 7 years from there is a shamrock shake & my sister practically made me try it lol for the most part i've cut out most processed foods. certainly most of all frozen premade stuff. i used to eat that stuff so often in HS that i started to have serious allergic reactions to the preservatives and chemicals.

the only "fast food" i'll eat now on occasion is chinese take-out (MSG free places) & arbies once in a blue moon.

  • I have a love/hate relationship with that feeling, lol. It happened to me two weeks ago, just after one week of eating more greens and lower calories. I love that my body rejected the fairly fried dinner we had out, but I wish it wasn't so violent and disgusting feeling so we COULD still actually enjoy that food when we do go out on that more-rare occasion now. Hope you're feeling better now!

  • It's amazing how your body reacts to bad food when it's used to good fuel.  I used to have one cheat meal a week and I'd want a burger or pasta and of course, dessert.  As good as most of it tasted, the way I felt after wasn't worth it.  I could be sick for as long as 24 hours!

  • I get horrible heartburn that lasts a good 24 hours when I eat poorly now. My body straight up doesn't want bad food. Good for you for saying goodbye to it for good! I hope you feel better today.
  • I agree with PP as well as I wonder if you body stops being able to process all that fat.  I have experienced something similar and I too don't eat that crap anymore.

  • That happened to me too. I had given up eating McDonald's before the wedding because it made me break out. The first time I had a Big Mac after the wedding. I got so sick. My stomach was telling me, "what the heck is this crap?!" I hope you feel better.

  • Honestly, I'm kind of glad this happened to you! I know it feels horrible, but your body is literally rejecting processed, fake food! That means you have been feeding yourself amazing and wonderful clean food. :)

  • That happened to me about a year ago...I haven't eaten there since. Around that time I also saw an article about someone who got a regular burger from there, left it on a plate for months and it didn't grow anything and looked exactly the same (I think the bun got hard, but that is it). My nutritionist actually did the same experiment and showed all of her patients the burger. It is incredible that they can get away with selling/serving such "food".

  • I'm actually glad it happened too, because I finally was able to 100% verify that it was the fast food that was making me so sick all the time. All the problems I was constantly having when I was still eating it, aching swollen joints, coughing all the time and having sounds like I was dry heaving come out (I always thought they were just bad burps), feeling tired and sluggish, heartburn when I went to bed, etc. it was all the fast food and garbage I was eating all the time.

I actually decided to weigh myself a few hours after I'd eaten all that crap, just to see how much water weight i'd put on myself from all the sodium. I'd literally gained 3 POUNDS in fluid! I hadn't been planning on exercising yesterday, but I ended up going and getting on the elliptical for 30 minutes after that, just to try and help my body get rid of all the extra fluid, and as an apology to my body for feeding it crap, lol. I felt much better afterward, but still had semi-aching joints and really horrible heartburn when I went to bed.
