Another hard water question...

I mentioned before that everything water touches in my new home is streaky unless it went through an appliance. I deep cleaned the bathrooms this weekend with descaler and now I plan to tackle the hard wood floors tomorrow. The product I bought is the same thing I use in NYC for hardwood, except it's made here, so I imagine it has extra something to compensate for the hard water? (It's Ecover for hard wood floors.) Do I need to do anything else? I am terrified I will mop and end up with a streaky-looking floor at the end.

I am so worried about this that I considered ordering a Swiffer Wet Jet from the UK (haven't found that product here)...

Also, I promise that I am actually getting out there and having fun in Paris, despite my posts about home cleaning and pancake-making.

  • Use white vinegar.  Cheaper and better for you.

I second this. I use 2 cups of water mixed with an 1/8 cup of vinegar, spray on the floor, and mop with a microfiber mop.

  • I also use this to clean counters, shelves, sink, pretty much anything. It does a good job on helping to remove hard water stains from the sink and faucets.

  • Carrefour (the bigger ones) sell Swifter wet pads and dusters etc, but i didn't see an actual Wet Jet..

H wouldn't let me use the vinegar.  I guess some stews on the boat used it on salt water and then HE had a huge mess to try to get off the windows.
