  Check Kayak first since they compare most airlines.
  

  I booked a flight last week the day before I wanted to leave with the airlines website. It was about $200 cheaper to fly from my small, local airport than it was to fly out of ATL.

  I ditto Kayak.  They compare the rates from most of the major travel websites.

  Also, I check into southwest if its not listed, because they dont always list with the search sites. I have also had luck searching the kayak or hotline or whatever and then going to the original airline's website, I like to buy it direct through them if I can because if something changes it can be easier. But sometimes you do find a better deal through them, especially mixing and matching airlines

  Do you have an Adventure Travel at your base? MH just went to ours and talked to them about some flights and theirs were a little cheaper than the ones I found on Kayak. Other than that, Kayak has always been cheaper for us unless SW was an option.

  The cities are limited, but you can always check allegiantair.com for cheap tickets.
