Legit or no?

I am actively seeking employment and, of course, a great deal of that is online.  My resume is probably out there floating around on half a dozen career sites since many companies use different ones that you have to use to be able to apply.

I have received many emails back basically asking me to respond in one way or another if I would like to move forward in being considered for whatever position they're recruiting for.

Generally I don't respond to anything I didn't specifically apply for.  I have noticed many are using gmail email accounts.  For me that is a huge red flag, but maybe I'm being too cautious?

Any other tips to quickly ID a scam vs. a legit opportunity?

Re: Legit or no?

  • Do any of them include websites for the place seeking you out? You could try to research the company, check out their website and see. Most of them I do not apply to but a few I have seen are legit. However, most of the time they are general jobs and do not fit what I am seeking.
  • I would respond to them all, asking for information from them so you can ask specific questions, etc.

  • I agree with PPs.  I'm like you and have several resumes floating around out there.  I've gotten several emails from "interested parties" who are looking fora  general position to be filled.  Usually I try to do research on the company before I respond.
