I am considering putting the crib back together and getting one. I'm at my wits end. Cooper is not sleeping, and even if we sit on the floor he won't go back to sleep. I've tried it all. We're trying CIO and that's obviously not working. Tonight I ended up dumping his drawers out because I caught him climbing in them to climb up it. I do not want him sleeping with us. But unless I take all of the furniture out of his room, I can't trust he won't hurt himself. He isn't afraid of climbing or falling and I really don't know what else to do. I am tired.
Re: Do you have a crib tent?
Ugh. DH and I just had this conversation a few days ago. Maddie is only 14 months but is super tall for for her age and a little monkey. I see her figuring out how to get out of her crib sooner rather than later and we decided we would go with the crib tent if we had to.
Good luck!! It can't hurt to try it at this point.
we never had one for dd, but we went through a phase with her for a solid couple of weeks where she screamed bloody murder at the idea of going to bed.
i would literally rock her in her room while she screamed and cried for over an hour until i got her through her first sleep cycle. once she was finally out cold i could put her down. it sucked.
the crib tent seems like it might be a good idea for you, especially since he's climbing everything.
we didn't tent connor's crib, he could get out of it but pretty much had it down (he did far more challenging things on the playground at chick fil a). the bars weren't raised up all the way, so he didn't have to climb high to get out. it was bolted to the wall so there was no danger of it falling on him.
i think we got him a real mattress sometime before he was 4, but we let him sleep on it on the floor for a while to make sure he wasn't gonna be a roller.after that DH built him the bunk bed he still uses.
if your little man wants to be in the crib, maybe go back to it and see how he does un-tented, then tent it if you aren't getting results. if he's climbing the other furniture i totally agree that maybe it needs to come out of his room or be made to where he can't climb it.
as for the caged animal thing, meh. if it's for his safety, it's not really any different than 5-point-harnessing a kid into a carseat multiple times per day.

I bought one to keep cats out of the crib before I realized how useless it was for that (cats wanted to be no where near a baby!). And then my kids ended up not sleeping in a crib.
Pretty sure I've still got it. I'd sell it for $15 if you want to try it out. eloisesmom at gmail
I say go for it! I am in the same boat as you! And I am exhausted! Melatonin has been working lately but, he still wakes up in the middle of the night and gets out of bed.
Let me know if it works! I might try it too!
Ditto this. We never had a crib tent but we did have a gate on their doors when they were in the not-staying-in-bed stage.
ETA: the gates were ones from a baby proofing company, we tried a spring loaded pet gate at the door and that did nothing but give dd something to push down. The gates that were drilled into the door frames were what did the trick for us.
