Re: does anybody know a good tax person?

  • I can tell you what I don't recommend - H&R Block.

A few years ago we were in a simulair situation - we had rental property for part of the year, a marriage, a sale of a house (for a loss), DH was a contract employee for part of the year, etc.  We could have handled one or two of them, but there were too many for me to feel confident in our return.

We went to H&R Block.  It was an awful experience.  The tax "advisor" seemed more clueless then we were.  Not a good expereince at all.

  • We use Stephen Kahn and have been happy with him.  He's located in Alexandria, off Duke Street.

we don't have simple taxes but not overly overly complicated either. I love having a real person to talk to about options and to answer questions. Will never go back to just using software.

  • We've been using Alan Gordon for a few years and I've been very happy with his services. He's in downtown Rockville.

We took Strug's recommendation last year and totally adore Mike Fine.  He's fantastic.

I established my own LLC recently, and he was super-helpful in figuring out tax options related to owning my own business.
