Last week I was headed to Great Lakes Crossing Mall and was on 1-75. Two volunteer firefighters came onto the highway behind me. About 5 minutes later, I saw their trucks on the side of the road, along with several other cars on both sides. I saw people running all over the place on the grassy berm area. I couldn't figure out what they were looking for. Then as I went past the scene, I noticed a car had flipped. It took me about 10 seconds to realize that most likely they were looking for the driver of the car, as no one was attending to the car. Later I got to thinking about it and realized that it probably had been at least 5 minutes since the accident, which makes me think that the person had been thrown pretty far. ![]()
That bothered me all night.
Re: Forgot to tell you this story
I think that is the best possible endorsement for wearing a seatbelt. People who are wearing one typically don't get thrown from their cars in accidents.
Nick works with wrecked cars and has seen some horrible things due to not wearing seatbelts.
Here's another possibility. Maybe the driver was able to get out, and was being treated by EMTs. Maybe they were looking for a dog who got out and ran.
Also? That dog was fine, and they found him just after you passed through.
I'll try to pretend it was that case even though there wasn't any emergency personal on site, other than the two volunteer firefighters. At that point there wasn't an official cop car on site yet.

I tried searching the local news page on the Free Press page but didn't see anything. I wasn't sure what city or twnshp that would have been and if that area would have had a local paper.
